Dwyane Wade and Sabrina Carpenter Crash SNL Monologue

Saturday Night Live host Quinta Brunson had some surprise guests during her monologue on Saturday, May 3, as both Sabrina Carpenter and Dwyane Wade made unexpected cameos.

The creator and star of Abbott Elementary, 35, opened her second SNL hosting gig by declaring that she exemplifies how “you can achieve anything you aim for, even when people doubt you.” Brunson shared her experiences working at a phone sex line before finding success in Hollywood and discussed her challenges with being “literally [just] 4-foot-11.”

“Yes, I’m short. And that’s totally fine!” she stated. “They even considered casting me as a kid on Abbott Elementary, and I wrote it. But I embrace being short, and I want fellow short people to understand there are no limits. So to all the shorties out there, this one’s for us.”

As she began a musical tribute to “being short,” Brunson was unexpectedly joined on stage by Carpenter, 25, while she highlighted other shorter celebrities.

“Sabrina, it’s really you! What brings you here?” Brunson inquired, to which the “Espresso” singer replied, “Well, you mentioned being short, so I thought I’d drop by!”

The duo exchanged jokes about the unique challenges of their height, including the perception that “short ribs” taste just like regular ribs for those who are vertically challenged.

“When you read short stories, do they feel like novels to you?” Carpenter asked, and Brunson enthusiastically agreed.

SNL cast member Marcello Hernández eventually interrupted the musical segment, noting that standing next to Carpenter and Brunson made him appear “super tall,” just as NBA legend Wade, 43, came on stage, towering over all three of them.

“I genuinely love being short,” he shared. “I was in the audience watching SNL and heard your song about being short. I felt seen.”

When Brunson reminded Wade of his height at 6-foot-4, he admitted he just “really wanted to be part of the song.” He then joined the trio to conclude their musical monologue.
