Tom Llamas Family Profile: Get to Know the NBC Nightly News Anchor’s Wife and Children
Tom Llamas remains focused on family as he embarks on his new journey as the host of NBC Nightly News.
“I’m going to be up early, working late, and committed to two priorities: my family and that show,” Llamas shared with Jose Diaz-Balart during the June 1, 2025, episode of the news program, just a day before his debut as anchor. “I believe I must be, because even though we are part of NBC, our true responsibility is to the viewers.”
In March 2025, Llamas was announced as the new host of NBC Nightly News, shortly after former anchor Lester Holt announced his retirement after a decade. “It’s a profound honor to be an anchor for NBC Nightly News, a role that carries significant responsibility,” he expressed in a statement at the time. “I am eager to collaborate with the exceptional journalists at Nightly News and Top Story to deliver crucial stories to our viewers each night.”
Making history as the first Latino weeknight anchor for the show, Llamas remarked, “Lester Holt is a remarkable individual and one of the most trusted broadcasters of our era. Like Lester, I assure you of my commitment to our viewers and a dedication to the truth.”
Beyond the screen, Llamas is the son of Cuban refugees and father to three children with his wife, Jennifer.

His Parents
Llamas’ parents fled Cuba during Fidel Castro’s regime and met in their teens after arriving in the U.S. Growing up in Miami, Llamas credits his parents for nurturing his passion for journalism.
“My parents were always engaged with current events, and that inspired me,” he told Florida NBC affiliate WESH in June 2025. “They taught me the value of hard work and perseverance; they’ve always worked incredibly hard.”
In another conversation with Diaz-Balart on NBC Nightly News that month, Llamas added, “To think my parents came here with nothing, and now their son is going to anchor Nightly News… that shows the American Dream is alive. I know that because I’m experiencing it.”
Jennifer Llamas
Tom met his wife, Jennifer, while attending Loyola University New Orleans, where they graduated together. “She’s the best thing that ever happened to me,” he remarked about his wife in a June 2025 interview with Nola.com. “None of this would be possible without her. I often think about what makes her so special in New Orleans.”
The couple tied the knot in 2006. While Tom is known for his on-screen presence, Jennifer operates behind-the-scenes as a media producer.
Malena Llamas
Tom and Jennifer welcomed their first child, Malena, in 2013. She got a glimpse of her dad’s profession by serving as a correspondent for NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt: Kid’s Edition, interviewing Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage star Montana Jordan during a November 2024 episode.
In March 2025, Tom celebrated his daughter’s birthday via Instagram. “Wishing the happiest ‘Golden Birthday’ this week to the best big sister we know,” he wrote, posting photos of her through the years. “M, we love you so much!”
Juliette Llamas
The family expanded to four with Juliette’s birth in 2015. She has shown a flair for gymnastics, securing a first-place trophy at a competition in April 2024. “A big week for our little competitors. Go Team Llamas!” Tom shared alongside Instagram photos and clips from Juliette and Thomas’ events.
Thomas Llamas
The couple welcomed their son Thomas in 2017, who shares his father’s enthusiasm for sports and news. Thomas had an engaging conversation with several members of the New York Mets during an April 2025 episode of NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt: Kid’s Edition.
Tom shared his excitement about the shoot on Instagram, writing, “Great shoot with @mets for @nbcnightlynews kids,” alongside images from the segment via Instagram. “A big thank you to @polarpete20 and @real_jessewinker.”
