CBS

Wendi McLendon-Covey responded to the claims regarding the relationship between Patrick Warburton and David Spade during the filming of Rules of Engagement.

In the episode of January 28, on Michael Rosenbaum‘s “Inside of You” podcast, McLendon-Covey was questioned about the rumors related to the CBS series.

“I constantly hear this rumor, and I like both of them, but did Patrick Warburton and David Spade not get along? Is there any truth to this?” Rosenbaum, 52, inquired.

McLendon-Covey, 55, answered, “I never witnessed anything that would back that up.”

The actress later concurred with Rosenbaum labeling the rumors as “misinformation.” Neither McLendon-Covey nor Rosenbaum went into detail about the origins of these claims, which lingered since the show aired from 2007 to 2013.

Rules of Engagement portrays two couples and their single friend, each at various stages in their relationships, as they face the complexities of dating, commitment, and marriage. In addition to McLendon-Covey, Warburton, and Spade, both 60, the cast featured Megyn Price, Oliver Hudson, Bianca Kajlich, and Adhir Kalyan.

McLendon-Covey has since thrived in her role on The Goldbergs and is currently involved in NBC’s St. Denis Medical. Before its premiere in November 2024, she spoke exclusively with Us Weekly about the insights she has garnered from portraying a medical professional.

“Fortunately — since I play an administrator — I don’t have to engage in any of the gruesome aspects. We have fantastic medical consultants who guide us in making things appear authentic,” McLendon-Covey, who plays Joyce, explained. “What I’m discovering is the importance of the chain of command.”

McLendon-Covey gained insights into the behind-the-scenes workings, noting, “I believe this knowledge is very beneficial. If I find myself in a hospital again, I can navigate the situation a bit more effectively. When I need something, I’ll be able to advocate for myself more confidently.”

St. Denis Medical is set in a fictional Oregon hospital where healthcare professionals strive to care for patients while managing their personal challenges. McLendon-Covey humorously mentioned that she has varying levels of trust in her co-stars regarding their medical skills.

“There are a few actors I genuinely trust could draw blood if necessary,” McLendon-Covey mentioned to Us. “I definitely believe Allison [Tolman] could assist in medical emergencies. Plus, I think David Alan Grier could stitch me up because he practiced suturing. I hope it never comes to that, but I’d trust him.”
