Lionel Richie Admitted to ICU Following St. Louis Concert

Lionel Richie has been admitted to the hospital and is presently in an intensive care unit in St. Louis, Us can confirm.

A source connected to Richie’s ongoing tour informs Us, “Lionel decided to get checked out, so he remained in St. Louis, but he’s doing fine.”

Richie, 77, voluntarily checked into the hospital after his performance at The Muny in St. Louis on Saturday, August 29, for some tests, as reported by TMZ, the first outlet to break the news. It is said that he aims to be discharged on Tuesday, September 1.

During the conclusion of Saturday’s show, Richie requested his team to bring out a chair for him while he performed his last song, “All Night Long (All Night).”

This marks the second hospitalization for Richie in the last two months. During a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, in June, he informed the audience that he felt “dizzy” and “strange,” which led him to cut his set short and seek medical attention.

“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” he humorously remarked during the show before settling at a piano. After a brief intermission, he ended up postponing two performances as doctors advised him to “rest and recuperate.”

Upon returning for his next concert, he joked with the audience, “I had you worried there for a minute, didn’t I?” He further added, “You have no idea what I’ve endured in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends share their advice on what I should be doing.”

The following month, Richie expressed his gratitude to fans for their support via Instagram.

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and all your love. ❤️ I’m feeling good, and I’m truly thankful for all of you,” he posted. “Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we created lasting memories together. See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long! 🎉.”

Richie is currently on tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. He has a performance lined up for September 26 in San Francisco, followed by another show in Chicago on September 30, before heading to Columbus, Ohio, on October 2.

Additionally, Richie has a residency titled King of Hearts scheduled to start in Las Vegas on October 14, continuing through November 14.

Richie began his music career while in college and released his solo debut album in 1982 after being a member of the Commodores. Since then, he has earned four Grammys, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe.
