Will there be a new episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ tonight?
Absolutely! A new episode of “SNL” will air on Saturday, Dec. 21. As per usual, the show will start at 11:30 p.m. E.T. / 8:30 p.m. P.T. on NBC.
Viewers can also stream the episode the following day on Peacock, which is operated by NBCUniversal, the parent company of TODAY.
The episode on Dec. 21 will be the final show of 2024 and will celebrate the Christmas holiday.
Who is hosting?
This week’s host is Martin Short.
The acclaimed actor and comedian is beloved for numerous appearances in both television and film, including titles like “Innerspace,” “Father of the Bride,” “Only Murders in the Building,” and “Three Amigos!” Additionally, he has graced Broadway stages with roles in musicals like “The Goodbye Girl” and “Little Me,” winning a Tony Award for the latter.
Short has hosted “SNL” four times previously, first in 1986, again in 1996, in 2012, and lastly co-hosting alongside Steve Martin in 2022.
With this being Short’s fifth hosting stint, he may just receive a coveted “Five-Timers” jacket. Celebrities who have hosted the show five times or more welcome new members into the “Five-Timers Club” with an elaborate jacket and a cigar. For instance, Emma Stone joined the club in 2023.
Moreover, Short was once a cast member on “SNL” during its 10th season in 1984-1985.
Ahead of his hosting weekend, “SNL” shared a tribute featuring some of his finest moments on the show over the years and posted a behind-the-scenes photo of Short during the table read this week.
Who is performing?
This week’s musical guest is Hozier, whose full name is Andrew Hozier-Byrne.
The Irish singer first graced “SNL” stage back in 2014 after the success of his breakout hit “Take Me to Church.” Now, a decade later and following another viral hit, he’s returning to perform tracks from his “Unreal Unearth” album, likely including “Too Sweet.”
Hozier expressed his thrill at being the musical guest on X, saying, “Wild way to end this year. Can’t wait.”
On a Instagram post announcing his pairing with Short for the last episode of 2024, fans expressed their excitement in the comments.
“Martin Short and Hozier is such a wild pairing and I’m absolutely here for it,” one fan wrote, while another referred to the duo as “an early Christmas gift.”
“SNL” also shared a video featuring Short and Hozier announcing their roles on the Dec. 21 episode. In the clip, longtime cast member Kenan Thompson dubs the episode this season’s “Christmas show.”
Fans speculated that Short’s friend and “Only Murders” co-star Steve Martin might make a surprise appearance to deliver one of his famous Christmas monologues.
