Sephora Addresses Huda Kattan’s Antisemitism Controversy
Sephora is addressing the controversy surrounding Huda Beauty after founder Huda Kattan attributed various global conflicts and attacks, including World War I, World War II, and the September 11 terrorist attacks, to Israel.
Following a TikTok video posted by Kattan in July, where she made these unfounded claims, calls for Sephora to pull her products from their stores intensified.
On Wednesday, August 7, Sephora responded to the issue, stating to journalist Elizabeth Wagmeister, “Sephora is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive shopping environment for everyone. We acknowledge that remarks from one of our brand partners have caused concern and wish to clarify: we do not support hate, harassment, or misinformation, as these go against our values and code of conduct.” The statement was confirmed as accurate by Us Weekly.
Sephora’s statement continued, “We take this issue very seriously and can confirm we are currently reviewing this matter internally, including discussions with the brand.”
According to CNN, in a now-deleted TikTok, Kattan alleged, “All of the conspiracy theories and substantial evidence out there — claiming Israel has been behind World War I, World War II, and the events of September 11 and October 7 — they allowed all of this to happen. Is this crazy?”
She further commented, “I had a suspicion — I was thinking, ‘Are they responsible for every world war?’ Yes.” (Both World War I and II occurred before the establishment of the State of Israel in May 1948.)
On social media, users expressed their opinions regarding the situation on X. One user wrote, “Please remove Huda Beauty from your shelves,” tagging Sephora. “If not, Sephora could be linked with open antisemitism, harming its reputation and trust. This could lead to significant long-term consequences, including financial downturns. Silence is complicity.”
Another user stated, “I am boycotting HUDA Beauty products,” while a third remarked, “GET rid of Huda Beauty.. SHE IS CANCELED.”
Moreover, over 7,000 individuals have signed a petition on Change.org urging Sephora to discontinue Huda Beauty’s products.
Us Weekly reached out to Huda Beauty for a comment but has not received a response yet.
