Sarah Jessica Parker Speaks Out About the Ending of And Just Like That

Sarah Jessica Parker bids farewell to Carrie Bradshaw following the announcement of And Just Like That’s unexpected conclusion.

“She crossed streets, avenues, rubicons, it seemed. She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped, fell short and into puddles. Aged, gained wisdom. She has made the hardest, worst, and best decisions,” Parker, 60, shared via Instagram on Friday, August 1. “Traveled far and wide. For what’s new, vintage treasures, friendships, and love.”

Parker’s heartfelt tribute celebrated the character she has portrayed since Sex and the City debuted in 1998.

“Moved homes, changed time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City,” the post elaborated. “She dated, enjoyed drinks, had boyfriends, a husband, and experienced truly incredible loves and romances. She hailed cabs, ran in heels, and danced with Stanford. She spoke the truth and sometimes lied. She typed, mused, wrote, published, grieved, and forgave. Got stood up, stood strong, and stood out.”

Parker further expressed: “She committed herself to hats, books, shoes, friends, and the promise of a new day in her beloved city and among the people she cherished most. She wore shame, pride, honor, optimism, and an endless array of dresses, skirts, tutus. Held hands, dreams, and the very best of people.”

In her statement, Parker reflected on the impact Carrie had on her own life.

“Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte, there will never be better friends, and how fortunate for Carrie to know and love Seema and LTW, the most divine new connections. Carrie Bradshaw has been the heartbeat of my professional life for 27 years. I believe I have loved her most of all,” she reflected. “I know others have loved her just as fiercely. They’ve been frustrated, judged, and cheered for her. The symphony of these emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most significant companion. Thus, I hold a deep and profound gratitude and a lifetime of debt to you all.”

Parker supported the decision to conclude And Just Like That after three seasons.

“MPK and I recognized together, as we have before, that this chapter is complete. AJLT has been filled with joy, adventure, and the finest kind of hard work along with the extraordinary talent of 380 individuals, including all the brilliant actors who joined us,” she concluded. “I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be a long time before I forget. The entirety. Thank you all. I love you immensely. I hope you enjoy these final two episodes as much as we do. Rabbit rabbit.”

Showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed on Friday that the Sex and the City spinoff is approaching its end. The season 3 finale, set to air on August 14, will now serve as the series finale.

“And just like that … the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to a close. While drafting the last episode of And Just Like That season three, I realized that this may be a perfect spot to conclude,” read King’s statement. “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, we agreed to finish this beloved series this year with a two-part finale, extending the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”

King justified not revealing the news ahead of the season 3 premiere in May.

“SJP and I withheld announcing the news until now because we wanted to ensure that the word ‘final’ wouldn’t overshadow the enjoyment of watching the season,” he elaborated. “With sincere gratitude, we thank all the viewers who have welcomed these characters into their homes and hearts over these years.”
