Kate Gosselin Discusses Her 12-Hour Shifts After Reality TV
Kate Gosselin is finding fulfillment beyond reality television, sharing that she is now putting in long hours in the medical field to support herself and her family years after her rise to fame.
“It was another 12-hour day, and my patient and I accomplished a lot,” Kate, 50, shared in a recent TikTok video posted on Monday, August 11, just a month after joining the platform. “My patient wanted to spend time outside, and I managed all the medical care, including feeding, bathing, and more.”
“I work again tomorrow morning, so I’ve got my dishes loaded in the dishwasher and will run it before I head to bed to wake up early and do it all again,” she explained.
Kate recently relocated to Troutman, North Carolina, from Pennsylvania and renewed her nursing license earlier this year. The former TLC star mentioned that she’s frequently asked about her work attire as a pediatric home health care nurse in N.C., stating she typically wears a scrub T-shirt and cargo-pocket pants.
In the comments, a fan asked why she still has to work such long hours to make ends meet, to which Kate replied honestly, “Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I’m proud to say cover all of their education and more, and LAWYERS.”
“It’s unfortunate, but I was constantly dragged into court, which costs a fortune. It’s sad because my kids could have had more saved for their future and I could have had retirement savings if it weren’t for legal fees. But I’m helping other families, I feel needed, and I enjoy the work,” she continued.

In another response, Kate mentioned that “reality TV doesn’t pay as well as it should when you have to provide for 8 kids on your own.”
Kate gained popularity while starring in Jon & Kate Plus 8 from 2007 to 2009 alongside her ex-husband Jon Gosselin, their twins, Mady and Cara, now 24, and their 21-year-old sextuplets Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Joel, Aaden, and Collin.
During her reality TV tenure, she also starred in her own spinoff, Kate Plus 8, and a show focused on her love life, Kate Plus Date, which aired for one season in 2019.
As reported by Us Weekly, Kate and Jon, 48, were involved in a high-profile custody battle after their divorce in 2009.
After their separation, Kate was granted legal custody of all eight children, with both parents receiving shared physical custody. However, in 2018, Hannah began living with her father full-time, and later, Collin joined them.
Collin recently made headlines with a heartfelt post about his estranged siblings.
“Forced apart, pitted against each other,” he wrote alongside a photo of his siblings shared on August 8. “All the fame and money in the world, but what about kids being kids?”
“I will always love them more than anything,” Collin added, expressing his desire to reunite and rebuild their relationship. “The tears I shed behind closed doors thinking about the memories we could have created. I love you guys.”
