Emily Blunt Reveals Must-Do Parenting Ritual She Won’t Skip
Emily Blunt maintains a hectic schedule, yet she prioritizes a nightly ritual with her children.
In an interview with Net-a-Porter released on Monday, September 1, Blunt, 42, explained why she won’t compromise bedtime with her kids.
“Once my children start to find me repellent, once Mommy doesn’t reign supreme, I will do it, but I feel bedtime is this essential anchor,” she stated. “The 10-minute chats where they tell you everything – you don’t want to miss them.”
Blunt shares her daughters, Hazel, 11, and Violet, 9, with husband John Krasinski.
In 2023, the Devil Wears Prada actress shared that she values time with her daughters despite her demanding career.
“Even though they are resilient and accustomed to this unique lifestyle, it’s still challenging for them when I have to be away,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “There are key moments in the girls’ day I refuse to compromise on – like, ‘Will you wake me up, take me to school, pick me up and put me to bed?’ And I just want to be able to say, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ It brings me such relief to do that.”
Blunt and Krasinski, 45, began their relationship in 2008 after being introduced by a mutual friend.
“It was one of those moments where I wasn’t looking for a relationship and was planning to take my time in L.A.,” Krasinski shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011. “Then I met her and felt an intense nervousness—like, ‘Oh God, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As we shook hands, I said, ‘I like you.’ You just know when you meet someone special.”
Blunt told InStyle in 2013, “Meeting John really transformed my life. With his support, I feel unbeatable. There’s someone backing you on your good days and leading you on your bad ones.”
The couple got engaged in August 2009 and married in July 2010. They welcomed Hazel in February 2014 and Violet in July 2016.
Throughout the years, the A Quiet Place co-stars have openly discussed the joys and challenges of parenting.
“You quickly realize how challenging it is to be a great parent, and you’re just trying your best. There’s no such thing as perfection or a guide,” Krasinski reflected on Today in 2016. “Children often see their parents as superheroes; they can do no wrong. But then you recognize that they figured things out through trial and error, which adds a layer of humility. I connect with my own parents even more now, thinking of them as young parents, just like I am.”
Blunt stated in 2022 to E! News, “I doubt any parent feels they’re managing everything perfectly. I’ve come to accept: ‘This is our life.’”
She added, “This is what we know, and it’s all my kids have ever known. They have a sense of ownership of us as parents. They’re not rushing to see me in a film, which keeps it all in perspective.”
