Michael Weatherly Won’t Appear in Niece Alexandra Breckenridge’s Virgin River

NCIS star Michael Weatherly is eager to share the screen with his niece Alexandra Breckenridge — but it won’t be on Virgin River.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly regarding NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Weatherly, 57, discussed the possibility of Breckenridge, 43, guest-starring on his show or vice versa.

“I would absolutely love that. I adore Alex. She’s an incredible person and a wonderful niece. I also love her husband, Casey [Hooper], and their kids,” he expressed. “I always wait for the universe to unfold as it should. I try to avoid pushing too hard.”

Weatherly is open to collaborating with Breckenridge in the future.

With cast departures, love triangle twists, and numerous unresolved plots, Virgin River has many questions to address in season 7 — but are all the cast members returning for more episodes? “We haven’t worked together yet. So let’s not consider it a forever notion,” the actor remarked, acknowledging that it could mean collaborating on an existing project or something entirely new.

Weatherly suggested exploring a different genre with Breckenridge. “I’m not going to do horror,” he stated. “She’s been involved in American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, and True Blood. I want no part of that. I just know I’d be terrified.”

He continued: “Let’s delve into sci-fi. I’ll go to space!”

Currently, Weatherly is focused on his return to the NCIS universe. He portrayed Tony DiNozzo on NCIS from seasons 1 to 13 and later appeared on CBS’s Bull from 2016 to 2022 before stepping back from the spotlight. Now, he’s back in front of the camera with NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which follows Tony and Cote de Pablo‘s character Ziva.

The 10-episode series premiered on Thursday, September 4, and “picks up after Ziva’s presumed death when Tony left the NCIS team to raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva is found alive, leading her to undertake one last mission with NCIS before reuniting with Tony and their daughter in Paris.”

The official synopsis reveals that Tony and Ziva, who have been raising their daughter Tali together, must “go on the run across Europe” when Tony’s security company faces an attack. They have to “determine who is after them and perhaps learn to trust each other again for an unconventional happily ever after.”

Weatherly spoke to Us regarding the spinoff’s unusual choice to separate Tony and Ziva before the series debuted.

“The show operates as a somewhat unreliable narrator,” Weatherly teased. “That’s why you might think they’re together for a moment, then they’re not, but then maybe they are. It leaves you wondering, ‘Wait, which timeline am I in?’”

NCIS: Tony & Ziva airs on Paramount+ Thursdays.
