Jodie Sweetin Discusses the Fluctuating Dynamic with Candace Cameron
Jodie Sweetin is sharing her thoughts on her current relationship with former Full House co-star Candace Cameron Bure.
“Just as DJ and Steph embody contrasting personalities, so do Candace and I,” Sweetin, 44, remarked in a recent interview with She Knows.
The actress worked alongside Cameron Bure for eight years during her formative years, as Cameron Bure portrayed the older sister D.J. Tanner while Sweetin played younger sister Stephanie Tanner on the beloved ABC sitcom.
In her discussion, Sweetin alluded to how the once sisterly connection with Cameron Bure, 50, has transformed as they transitioned into adulthood.
“There’s always been a sister-like connection between us. It’s just like any family—there are ups and downs,” she acknowledged.
Us has reached out to Cameron Bure’s representatives for a statement.
Since filming wrapped on the Netflix spinoff Fuller House in 2020, the former co-stars have occasionally shown public support for each other, notably with Cameron Bure attending Sweetin’s wedding to husband Mescal Wasilewski in August 2022. (Sweetin was previously married to Shaun Holguin from 2002 to 2006, Cody Herpin from 2007 to 2010, and Morty Coyle from 2012 to 2016.)
Nevertheless, fans of Full House have observed that the on-screen sisters have diverged on various contentious issues, including the debate surrounding the controversial Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris in 2024. (Cameron Bure, along with other Christian conservatives, criticized the Olympics organizers for what they deemed disrespectful, claiming that the recreation of the Last Supper with drag queens was inappropriate. The organizers later clarified that the scene was a representation of the feast of Dionysus from Greek mythology, not the Last Supper.)

In December 2025, Sweetin referred to Cameron Bure as “the closest thing” she had to a sister, emphasizing that she had “no issue” with her co-star’s sincere religious beliefs.
“Religion can be a source of peace and happiness, and I have no issues with that; it’s just not my place to judge if her type of faith resonates with that. I believe you can’t love people without respecting them,” she expressed during “The Moment” podcast. “I know Sweetin has been vocal about her views on political matters, while Cameron Bure has opted to steer clear of those topics, although it’s uncertain if this difference affects their relationship.”
“[Candace wanted to] keep that out of her brand or whatever, and I just don’t really care about my brand,” Sweetin commented. “If there are people who do not appreciate what I say or believe, ‘I like you as Stephanie but I don’t like you as you.’ That’s fine; they can watch Full House and not follow me online. It’s okay if they don’t like me, but I refuse to let others’ opinions dictate who I should be. Candace and I differ significantly in that aspect.”
Sweetin reiterated similar sentiments in February while speaking on the “Only Child With Bob the Drag Queen” podcast, explaining that the two find themselves on “very opposite sides of various issues.”
“I’m essentially a loud and outspoken individual on numerous topics, and that’s not going to change. If that’s not her, then that’s okay,” she stated.
