Big Brother’s Haley Shares the Duration of the Medieval Twist
Big Brother 28’s Haley Thogmartin faced significant challenges during the medieval-themed competition that lasted all night.
“I was out there for what felt like seven hours, but I really had no idea how long it lasted,” Haley, 29, told Us exclusively on Thursday, September 3, just after her elimination from the Big Brother house. “On top of that, it was incredibly hot.”
Haley, who hails from Wildwood, Missouri, shared that the weather was “super humid” during the event.
“Since I’m not from California, I’m not used to this level of humidity,” she mentioned. “It was in the middle of the night, and the competition just felt endless. I’ve played sports for most of my life, and while I’ve dealt with the heat during summer games, that was when I was 13, not nearing 30. It made things quite a bit tougher. But I really believed I gave it my all.”
After the airing of Big Brother’s landmark 1000th episode, the houseguests utilized the dining table time machine to transport themselves back to medieval times for their next challenge. The players, however, were notified that the Head of Household competition had been scrapped and that someone would be sent packing by night’s end.
The group vied for safety, which ultimately went to Dee Valladares. The Survivor 45 winner, 29, also had the power to grant safety to one more contestant. Haley expressed her anxiety about being eliminated in a safety chain competition, but Dee chose her ally Rick Devens, who had earlier saved her with the Diamond Power of Veto this season.
“I already anticipated she would return the favor,” Haley explained regarding her reluctance to campaign harder to Dee for safety. “I felt it would create unnecessary pressure for both of us to push for that and plead, ‘Please save me.’ But deep down, we all knew she would opt for Devens since he had previously saved her.”
In the end, Haley volunteered to be the first competitor alongside Drew Campbell. Drew, 22, won the initial competition, saving Angela Murray. Barrett Pfeiffer was sent in next to compete against Haley and emerged victorious. Dee, Devens, Angela, and Drew counseled Barrett, 27, to send in Taylor Brown and LaTrice “La La” Verrett to face Haley for her safety, but Barrett had other plans after the eviction of his friend Mallory Aurichio. He instead sent in La La and Yash Patel, with Yash, 24, prevailing and choosing to eliminate Haley.
Haley admitted she wasn’t wholly taken aback by Barrett’s decision to turn on her.

“Having already been flipped on once in the house, you really should expect the unexpected,” she recounted, echoing the words of host Julie Chen Moonves. “It was disheartening because that was a do or die moment for me, and I knew that looking back would help me understand why it all happened. I completely understand it now; it’s just how it was. But I knew this was going to be a win or go home scenario.”
The telemedicine executive noted that while she did volunteer to go first, she was aware it would be tough to beat some “high-caliber opponents.”
“Drew excels at puzzles, and we’ve discussed our strengths before. So the competition was definitely not a walk in the park. None of the competitions we participated in were,” she explained to Us. “And then, with Barrett already nailing the balance beam in the previous HOH, I went in expecting that to be a challenge, even though I was unfamiliar with the games beforehand. I faced some formidable competitors, and then Yash at the end truly delivered. I can only give them my respect because they performed exceptionally well.”
