Nicole Young Takes Center Stage in Selling Sunset Season 9 Trailer Following Filming Break
The teaser for season 9 of Selling Sunset hinted at the incident that resulted in Nicole Young being briefly sidelined.
On Wednesday, October 15, Netflix unveiled the sneak peek, which depicted a confrontation between Nicole and Amanza Smith.
“There’s a huge elephant in the room with Nicole,” a voiceover states before Amanza, 48, stands up and points her finger at Nicole, exclaiming, “You need to get the f*** out.”
In response, Nicole, 39, defends her actions to Jason Oppenheim, declaring, “I didn’t call her names.” Jason, 48, wasn’t pleased and retorted that it “would have been better” if Nicole had just thrown shade instead.
Following the start of filming for season 9, Us Weekly confirmed that Selling Sunset had to pause production due to a contentious dispute between Nicole and Chrishell Stause.
“I had a call with production two days ago during which they confirmed that I have absolutely not been fired from the cast, but they decided to pause my filming schedule until next week to shield me from increasingly tense situations on set,” Nicole stated to Us in January. “I’m still considering whether I want to continue filming in such an environment, especially given the numerous frustrating double standards.”
Nicole further stated: “Selling Sunset has been an incredible opportunity and a rollercoaster, but it doesn’t define my life or identity. I have a vibrant life beyond the show, and thankfully, in real life, my identity and personality can’t be altered or misrepresented to fit a scripted narrative.”
The rift initially emerged in season 8 when Nicole accused Emma, 33, of having an affair with a married man.
“I wasn’t given a chance to speak in the last season. I was unaware of what was being filmed when I wasn’t around. I dedicated an entire season to supporting one of my best friends [Chelsea] during a difficult period in her life, only to have that undercut by what unfolded after the show aired, leaving me blindsided,” Emma told Us in December 2024 upon discovering Nicole’s comments days before the episodes aired. “I felt portrayed in a way that was misleading and unfair. It was deeply hurtful, and I can’t stress how shocking and painful that experience was for me.”
While Nicole asserted that Emma was aware of the rumors included in the show, Emma disagreed, insisting, “I had no clue. Chelsea and Chrishell had no idea either. It was a complete shock to me and my two closest friends, as everyone ensured they wouldn’t be informed since they were going to inform me first, so I was totally in the dark.”
Nicole later issued a public apology, which Emma refused to accept.
“I will never accept her apology. I don’t believe she is a good person. I know she lied,” Emma told Us. “I prefer to surround myself with positive individuals, and she doesn’t fit that description. I disapprove of how she has treated me, Chrishell, and others.”
At that moment, Emma felt relieved at the prospect of clarifying matters in season 9, stating, “Being around someone who caused me so much pain and harm is surely challenging. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, not even my worst enemy. What she did to me was terrible.”
She added, “I think she embodies malice. The sole reason I wish to address this and set the record straight is to share my truth so people can understand the situation, and that’s the only reason I would even consider discussing things with Nicole.”
Selling Sunset returns to Netflix on Wednesday, October 29.
