Ben McKenzie Describes His Marriage to Morena Baccarin as His ‘Best Investment’
Having delved into the world of cryptocurrency, Ben McKenzie is well-versed in smart financial practices, which leads him to deem his marriage to Morena Baccarin as his “top investment.”
“You might find this a bit cheesy, but my most valuable relationship is with my wife,” McKenzie, 47, told Us exclusively during the promotion of his documentary, Everyone Is Lying to You for Money, which is now available worldwide for a ticketed live virtual screening event.
McKenzie expressed his gratitude for Baccarin, 47, stating, “Navigating life alone is incredibly challenging … I am profoundly thankful for her presence in my life and for her bravery — or perhaps folly — in marrying me. It truly is the best investment I’ve ever made.”
The actor remarked that Baccarin’s support has been crucial for his professional endeavors — including Everyone Is Lying to You for Money.
“Morena is incredible in the documentary … she represents every woman in the world,” he elaborated. “I’ve lost count of how many women have shared stories of guys constantly discussing crypto with them — it’s largely a male-centric issue.”
He continued, “Morena has zero interest in crypto, just like my kids, but she’s been remarkably supportive, allowing me to pursue this ambitious project.”
The couple, married since 2017, has collaborated on multiple projects throughout their relationship. Everyone Is Lying to You for Money is particularly significant as it examines the cryptocurrency landscape.
The film was independently funded by McKenzie, who also directed, wrote, produced, and starred in the documentary as part of his research for the 2023 book Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud.
“My hope is that viewers will find it entertaining. Everyone knows someone who has invested in cryptocurrency, but the documentary isn’t aimed at that small percentage. The goal is to connect with the over 80 percent of the population who have never purchased crypto. Most people are highly skeptical of it, mainly because they only hear about criminal activities, corruption, and financial losses,” he explained to Us.
As a notable skeptic of cryptocurrency, McKenzie aimed to spark dialogue.
“I want to reassure those unsure of themselves that it’s not your fault; it’s the system. We find ourselves in a precarious situation where cryptocurrency has infiltrated our environment, thanks to the president’s newfound affinity and the dismantling of regulations,” he elaborated. “This is alarming, but we possess the power to hold our representatives accountable, alter the course of history, and place cryptocurrency back where it belongs.”
Before the traditional VOD launch of Everyone Is Lying to You for Money, McKenzie and his production company The Forge collaborated with Eventive — a ticketing and streaming platform dedicated to making independent films accessible without requiring a paid subscription.
McKenzie was joined by Baccarin at a ticketed live virtual screening and Q&A event where Everyone Is Lying to You for Money could be accessed by attendees through September 6.
“You’re not foolish for not grasping cryptocurrency,” McKenzie stated. “The complexity is deliberately inflated to perplex you. It’s merely a scam, a fad, and a criminal activity we don’t have to endure.”
Everyone Is Lying to You for Money is currently available on demand here until September 6.
