Title: Everything You Need to Know About Kayce Dutton’s Spinoff with Luke Grimes: Air Date and More!
The next installment in the Yellowstone franchise is a spinoff centered on Luke Grimes’ character, Kayce Dutton.
Yellowstone, which began airing in 2018, introduced audiences to the fictional Dutton family, who manage the largest ranch in Montana. Following its success on Paramount, creator Taylor Sheridan expanded the Yellowstone universe with the prequels 1883 and 1923.
CBS has greenlit Y: Marshals, the forthcoming series that tracks Kayce as he departs the Yellowstone ranch to become a U.S. Marshal, subsequent to Yellowstone’s conclusion in December 2024.
“Cowboys don’t say goodbye, they say see you later,” Grimes shared on Instagram when the thrilling announcement was made.

When Will ‘Y: Marshals’ Premiere on CBS?
The eagerly awaited series is set to premiere in spring 2026 on CBS as a midseason replacement. It will air on Sunday evenings at 9 p.m. ET.
Spencer Hudnut, who has previously worked on SEAL Team, will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Taylor Sheridan is also an executive producer for the project, with CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach noting, “In terms of Taylor’s involvement, we’re still early in the process. He’s a very busy guy, but we’ll take what we can get.”
What Is the Spinoff About?
As per the official synopsis, Y: Marshals showcases Kayce leaving “ranching life behind to join an elite unit” of the U.S. Marshals. He will “combine his cowboy skills and Navy SEAL training to serve justice in Montana, as he and his teammates navigate family, duty, and the psychological toll of being the last line of defense in the region’s fight against violence.”
Who Makes Up the Cast?
Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brett Cullen, and Logan Marshall Green will join Grimes in the new series.
Kebbel, Santos, and Means will portray Belle, Andrea, and Miles, respectively, all of whom are members of the U.S. Marshals, while Cullen will take on the role of Harry Gifford, the head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana.
Are ‘Yellowstone’ Stars on ‘Y: Marshals’?
Gil Birmingham is confirmed to return as Thomas Rainwater, along with Mo Brings Plenty as Mo and Brecken Merrill reprising his role as Kayce’s son, Tate Dutton.
Kelly Reilly is leading her own spinoff alongside Cole Hauser, which is currently in development. Kevin Costner is not expected to return — at least not unless it’s through flashbacks — following the death of the family patriarch in the final season of Yellowstone. There is also no confirmation on whether Wes Bentley will reprise his role as Jamie Dutton.
Is Monica on Kayce’s ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff?
The most notable omission thus far is Kelsey Asbille, who portrayed Kayce’s wife, Monica Dutton, in Yellowstone. She has not been announced as part of the cast for Y: Marshals.
In the sneak peek for the show, Kayce states, “I’m changing paths. Trying to find a new beginning.”
