Kelly and Matthew Stafford Introduce Their New Dog!

The Stafford family has made a significant mid-season addition.

Kelly Stafford, spouse of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, shared that they have welcomed a new furry companion into their home—a golden retriever named Lucy.

“New family member,” Kelly, 36, posted on her Instagram Story on Thursday, November 6, alongside a photo of Matthew, 37, carrying Lucy upstairs. Their other dog, George, can also be seen waiting at the top of the stairs, eager to meet his new playmate.

Additional photos in Kelly’s story showcased their daughter Hunter walking Lucy, Lucy enjoying a car ride for “school pickup,” and the two dogs napping together on the couch.

Animals have always held a special place in the Stafford family. Before welcoming George in 2023, Kelly and Matthew experienced the loss of their 13-year-old dog, Marley, the previous year.

“Why is it such a surprise and so difficult? Dogs aren’t meant to outlive us, we understand this when we make them a part of our lives. So why does it feel everlasting?” Kelly shared on Instagram following Marley’s passing.

“I woke up without a face in front of me that I’ve known for the past 13 years,” she continued. “The room felt less warm and cozy. I sat up, saw the empty dog bed beside me, and the tears began to flow again.”

Lucy’s arrival coincides with Kelly taking a break from her “The Morning After” podcast. In October, she announced her intention to step back for “about a month” to focus on her mental well-being.

Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly are busy with their four charming daughters at home. The NFL star married Kelly, whom he met while they were both at the University of Georgia, in April 2015. Just a year after their wedding, the couple began expanding their family, welcoming twins Chandler and Sawyer in April […]

“I’ve been struggling with where I see this going,” she explained on the October 2 episode. “I have four daughters and a husband, and this podcast is another one of my projects, which I cherish greatly, but not as much as them.”

In addition to Hunter, 7, Kelly and Matthew also share 8-year-old twins Sawyer and Chandler, along with their 5-year-old daughter Tyler.

“I feel we can all rely on each other now,” she continued. “I leaned on you guys; I hope you found support in this podcast, whether for laughter or to understand that not everything is perfect, and that’s okay.”

Kelly mentioned that her time away would likely be a “surprise” to Matthew, but she reassured that it doesn’t mean the end of the podcast.

“For now, this is mainly for my mental health and given it’s midseason, there are changes with this podcast,” she stated. “I feel the need to take a step back and reassess the plan. I’m not saying this is over. I really just need a moment.”

As for Matthew, his Rams are currently 6-2 this season, recently securing a 34-10 home victory against the New Orleans Saints. With 21 touchdown passes and only two interceptions across eight games, he is a strong contender for his first NFL MVP award.
