What Robyn Brown Surprised Kody with in Exclusive Special Forces Video
Kody Brown received an unexpected message from his wife Robyn Brown while competing on Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
In the Thursday, November 13, episode, the recruits watched heartfelt videos from their family members as the Directing Staff (DS) assessed their emotional responses to the messages.
Kody’s video message came from Robyn, 47, who said, “Hi, handsome, I’m sure you’re charming everyone and making friends. [You must be] impressing everyone with your capabilities.”
She added: “Please remember that the kids and I are praying for you daily. Sending you light and love.”
The season 4 participant was visibly touched by Robyn’s encouragement. The DS debated whether the tears Kody shed were genuine after he viewed the video. Kody, 56, had previously expressed deep emotion when discussing his home life on the show.
Sister Wives, which debuted on TLC in 2010, gave Us a glimpse into Kody’s life as a polygamist. By the time he met his fourth wife Robyn, he was already married to Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Christine Brown. He and Robyn legally married in December 2014 so he could adopt her three children from a previous marriage. They also have two children together, Solomon, 13, and Ariella, 9.
However, Kody’s first three marriages did not endure. Christine, 53, announced their separation in November 2021, followed by Janelle, 56, revealing in December 2022 that she had separated from Kody. Meri, 54, confirmed her split from Kody in January 2023.
“There has been some tension within the family due to the divorces. In some instances, communication with my children has stopped,” Kody shared in an earlier episode this month. “When you lack a deep connection with your children, it’s disappointing. Yet, there are certain things I won’t accept responsibility for. I will accept responsibility where I should.”
Kody was also asked to reflect on the “pros and cons” of his lifestyle, including any potential downsides.
“I had 18 kids with four wives,” Kody stated. “It’s led to three divorces, and I would never go through that again — I would never remarry.”
The reality star explained that he has always been “a believer,” noting, “I grew up in a culture where it was a side note in their belief system. My dad had three wives.”
In that same November episode, Kody began to cry when discussing the ongoing estrangement he experiences with some of his children.
“My calling was to be a husband and a father. I had four wives in the household. [That led to issues] within the family. There’s always the allegation that I favored one [child] over another,” he recalled. “They began to turn against [me]. They were like, ‘I don’t need Dad or want Dad in my life.’”
Kody expressed feeling “offended by a lot of” his children’s actions. “They rejected me. I felt I gave everything to my kids as long as they engaged with me. They consistently received my support,” he explained.
The DS remarked that perhaps Kody wasn’t fully accepting his “proper responsibility in the fallout” with his children.
“I’m not comfortable admitting when I’m wrong. I dislike being wrong,” Kody confessed. “At one point, I was focused on everyone’s well-being. I should have had a strong relationship with my children. Now, I’m at a stage where I readily acknowledge that I’ve made mistakes.”
He continued: “My mistake was thinking I understood what being a dad and a husband meant. I truly thought I did, and I was mistaken in many ways, which I detested. I hated being blamed — it made me resistant to take ownership.”
Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test airs on Fox Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
