Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Reunite for a Rare Public Appearance in NYC
Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen made a rare joint appearance at the 2025 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards.
At 39 years old, the twins wore matching long black coats while accepting the award for American Accessory Designer of the Year. This recognition adds to the accolades they’ve earned for The Row, their understated luxury label launched in 2006.
Mary-Kate spoke with Ashley by her side, expressing gratitude to their “wonderful customers” who “allow us to pursue our passions — from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”
She also acknowledged their “friends and family. Your unwavering support has brought us to where we are today. Thank you for the love and kindness that inspires us to come to work every day.”
The sisters shared smiles before leaving the stage, drawing applause from the fashion-savvy audience.
“OUR GIRLSSSS 🖤🖤 It’s rare to witness a public appearance from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, but when it happens, it’s at the @cfda awards,” read a caption from The Cut’s Instagram along with footage of Mary-Kate delivering her speech.
The Olsens frequently grab attention when they appear together. In September, they attended a W magazine and Bloomingdale’s New York Fashion Week event at the upscale Eleven Madison Park in Manhattan. Mary-Kate opted for a gray blouse paired with black trousers, while Ashley showcased a relaxed look in jeans topped with an oversized black coat. Their minimalist aesthetic was complemented by colorful scarves, a stylish nod to their mid-Aughts bohemian phase.
As young girls, Mary-Kate and Ashley shared the role of Michelle Tanner on the hit show Full House, later starring in various films, with their final joint effort being 2004’s New York Minute. They eventually shifted focus to a career in fashion, stepping away from the limelight.
“We were raised to be private individuals,” Mary-Kate told i-D magazine in 2021. “We are perfectionists and have always been dedicated workers.”
She further elaborated, “The reason we pursue fashion is to refine our imperfections. Each season presents us with the chance to do just that. It’s our duty to identify every flaw and ensure we continually progress, expanding our perspectives and serving everyone’s needs.”
Ashley added that when designing for The Row season after season, “Our instincts align closely. The best part is that we have one another to rely on.”
In a July 2024 cover story, Us Weekly sought insights from multiple sources about the sisters’ professional and personal lives.
“Growing up under the public eye significantly influenced how Mary-Kate and Ashley navigate their adult lives,” a friend revealed to Us, adding that “Considering their childhood stardom, they have emerged remarkably well. It could have been far worse.”
A source noted at the time that Mary-Kate and Ashley are “quite low-key and a bit dull these days. They’ve quit smoking and curbed their outings. With Ashley becoming a mother, her priorities have shifted; they’re not seen as often as before.”
Another insider commented: “They prefer being homebodies who would rather analyze The Row’s line sheets than hit the town. They are extremely selective about whom they let into their lives and what details they make public.”
