Steve McBee of the McBee Dynasty Shares His Dog Care Plans During His Prison Sentence
The McBee Dynasty patriarch Steve McBee Sr. is organizing care for his cherished pet dog, Gunner, ahead of his prison term.
“We joke about it since I’m [nearly] 53 years old, and my mom is moving back in with me. It’s my circle of life,” Steve, 52, shared with People on Saturday, November 29, noting that his mother will look after Gunner while he serves his time. “She has a couple of little dogs and will stay at my house with Gunner, making quilts all day.”
Steve humorously remarked that his bigger concern is Gunner rather than his four sons: Steven Jr., Jesse, Cole, and Brayden.
“Gunner has been with me since he was 6 weeks old. He sleeps right here on my neck. The boys will manage fine; they’re grown men,” Steve said to the publication. “But Gunner, he goes with me to work every day. Whether I’m in a tractor, combine, or bulldozer, he rides along. I tell him each night, ‘You’ll be okay, buddy.’”
News emerged in November 2024 that Steve Sr. pleaded guilty to his role in a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme involving federal crop insurance. As part of his plea deal, the Bravo star committed to pay over $4,000 in restitution. He was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison and must self-surrender by December 1.
Prior to starting his sentence, he discussed with ex-wife Kristi about the possibility of bringing Gunner to visit.
“I’m not sure [if dogs are allowed], but we’re going to find out,” Steve Sr. told People. “I don’t know if it will be better or worse if he sees me.”
He also mentioned that his family and ranch employees will continue to manage the farm during his absence.
“I truly have the best team I’ve ever worked with, and they are genuinely high-character individuals,” he expressed. “I feel confident that everything will proceed smoothly and even thrive while I’m away. We just had a team meeting, and I emphasized that sometimes when the leader is absent, it allows everyone to flourish without second-guessing. I’m okay with mistakes as long as they’re trying.”
The McBee sons recently shared with Us Weekly how they are coping with their father’s upcoming prison term.
“We’re making the most of our time with him, focusing on family dinners and leaning on each other for support,” Steve Jr., 32, told Us at 2025 BravoCon earlier this month. “The central theme of our show, even before my dad’s situation — and more so now — has always been about family. We can get through anything together.”
Meanwhile, Cole, 24, expressed to Us that the brothers are trying to maximize their time together before their father’s departure.
“We’re going to work through this together,” Cole emphasized. “This is a challenging time in our lives, but we’ll overcome anything.”
