DCC’s Reece Weaver Discusses Broadway Opportunity in FaceTime Call

Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Reece Weaver is expressing her joy over the incredible moment when she realized her Broadway aspirations had been fulfilled.

In a brief video shared on her TikTok account on Wednesday, August 12, Weaver, 24, is seen beaming with excitement, seemingly laughing in disbelief as she received a FaceTime call.

Text on the video read, “Are you ready to make your Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago?”

“A Facetime I’ll never forget,” Weaver captioned the post, adding, “@Chicago the Musical #chicagothemusical #roxiehart #audition #nyc #dream.”

Weaver’s followers swiftly rallied to support her in the comments.

“😭😭 you deserve all the good things in the world,” one follower wrote, while another commented, “So proud of you🥹 this video brings me so much joy.”

Another user exclaimed, “You’re going to nail it!! Can’t wait for you!”

Weaver announced on Tuesday, August 11, that she would be making her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago next month, following her retirement from the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading squad earlier this year.

“A DREAM COME TRUE 😭♥️,” Weaver shared on Instagram to announce this exciting new chapter in her career.

She is set to begin her performances on September 7 at New York City’s Ambassador Theatre, where she will join the cast for a limited six-week engagement through October 18.

“I’ve been a dancer since I was three years old,” Weaver said Tuesday on CBS Mornings. “I have a degree in dance and attended a performing arts middle school and high school, where my passion for the arts blossomed. I even participated in a few musicals during high school.”

She further elaborated, “I fell in love with the team aspect of building and creating something together. Performing on a Broadway stage has always been a dream of mine.”

Despite feeling a bit anxious about the role, Weaver dismissed the nerves as “completely natural.”

“So many legendary actors have portrayed Roxie, and I’m joining an incredible cast,” she mentioned. “I realize there’s a challenge ahead, but I’m truly honored to be part of this journey.”

After quickly becoming a fan favorite on Netflix’s docuseries America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Weaver surprised many by departing after three seasons.

In June, she explained her decision to retire to Us, stating, “Entering my third season, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. My joy was overflowing as I approached this year. I went into my last game without realizing it would be my final performance but treated it as if it were my last, allowing me to truly cherish the experience. I needed that closure for my mental health.”
