Kandi Burruss Shares Heartbreak as She Navigates Divorce from Todd Tucker
Kandi Burruss reveals that she attempted to conceal her “inner stress and sadness” following her separation from estranged spouse Todd Tucker.
On Wednesday, December 3, Burruss, 49, shared an Instagram Reel featuring joyful moments with friends and family. However, her accompanying caption hinted at the struggles she was facing behind the scenes.
“This is what I look like when I’m going through something,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum stated. “I show up for my family, I show up for my friends, I show up to handle my business, and I show up with a smile while feeling emotionally broken inside.”
She added, “In every picture in this video, I was grappling with life-altering issues that most of the people in the images had no idea about. This isn’t being fake; it’s just my way of coping. I tend to internalize my feelings and deal with them on my own.”
In her conclusion, Burruss noted: “I embody the saying ‘check on your strong friend because you never know what they are dealing with.’ I usually avoid sharing these things, but while listening to an old song I wrote years ago, it resonated with how I currently feel.”
That song, featuring the lyrics “Can’t keep running away, keep running away, from all the pain,” serves as the backdrop for Burruss’ post.
Burruss officially stated on November 21 to Us Weekly that she and Tucker, 52, have ended their 11-year marriage. On the same day, she filed for divorce.
As reported by Us, Tucker submitted court documents on November 26 requesting primary custody of their two children: Ace, 9, and Blaze, 6. Following this, Burruss — who initially sought joint custody — changed her request to sole custody. (Burruss is also the mother of daughter Riley, 23, from a previous relationship.)
“After much reflection and prayer, I’ve decided to proceed with the divorce,” Burruss stated last month. “This is a challenging and emotional time, but my priority is to maintain my peace, be the best mother possible, and co-parent with love and respect. I’m embracing a new chapter focused on my work, family, and personal growth. I appreciate everyone who has supported us over the years, and I ask for privacy, grace, and understanding as we navigate this transition with our family.”
Burruss also spoke about the separation during an Amazon Live broadcast on November 24, admitting it had been “building for a while.”
At that time, she remarked, “I’m being very honest, I feel up and down. Going through a divorce is definitely challenging. There are times when you’re fine, moving on, hanging out with friends.”
Three days later, Burruss shared her family’s Thanksgiving moments via Instagram, mentioning that Tucker “came earlier to eat with us, but he wasn’t present for the picture. He wasn’t excluded or anything like that.”
