Princess Anne Dazzles in Her Beloved Diamond Festoon Tiara at State Banquet
Princess Anne donned one of her cherished tiaras for a state banquet.
At 75, Anne radiated elegance during the event, welcoming German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the United Kingdom at Windsor Castle on Thursday, December 5. She showcased her Festoon Tiara, adorned with diamonds and topped with a prominent pearl.
As noted by The Royal Watcher, “the tiara initially featured a base of collet diamonds, which Princess Michael replaced with a row of pearls.” The tiara is possibly a Cartier creation from around 1900, though its exact origins remain unknown; it may have been passed down from Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll. Anne received the tiara in May 1973, according to Hello Magazine, shortly before her 23rd birthday.
Anne complemented the dazzling piece with matching pearl earrings and a coordinated choker featuring gold hardware. Her ensemble included a black dress embellished with silver crystals, a scoop neckline, and a full-length skirt. She enhanced her look with a tailored short-sleeve cropped jacket and kept cozy in a fuzzy cardigan before dinner.
For the banquet, Anne opted for understated makeup, highlighting her features with a hint of mascara and a soft pink lip. She sported her classic bouffant hairstyle, which she’s worn for 50 years.
The royal discussed her hairstyle in her 2020 documentary, Princess Royal: Anne at 70. In the film, she mentioned that while it takes her just a few minutes to achieve the look, Erin Doherty, who portrays a teenage Anne on Netflix’s The Crown, took hours to replicate it.
“I recently came across an article about Netflix and The Crown, where the actress mentioned the time taken to style her hair like mine,” she reminisced.
Anne continued, “I find it amusing that some people take so long; for me, it only takes about 10 to 15 minutes.”
Anne is not the only royal making waves with her stunning banquet appearances recently. Princess Kate Middleton looked breathtaking in a blue Jenny Packham sequin gown.
Her dress featured an asymmetrical neckline adorned with a glamorous cape that flowed elegantly to the floor, complemented by a fitted bodice and a pleated skirt. Kate, aged 43, enhanced her look with a navy sash cinched at her waist and a star brooch on her chest.
Kate elevated her look further with Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet Tiara, crafted by Prince Albert in 1853. The exquisite tiara contains 2,600 diamonds and was originally designed with opal details, later substituted with rubies. As Kate turned around, fans noticed how she secured the tiara; her brunette hair was elegantly twisted at the back, creating a neat knot, while the strands cascaded down in soft curls.
