When Will High Potential Return After Its Hiatus? Episode Details Inside

High Potential is not currently airing new episodes, so when is the show returning to ABC?

The popular series resumed for its second season in September 2025 before taking a break for the holidays. Five episodes were aired before the show paused again amidst the 2026 Games.

High Potential chronicles the journey of a brilliant intellectual, Morgan (Kaitlin Olson), who collaborates with the LAPD to solve murders. She’s teamed up with Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), who is initially doubtful about Morgan’s role in the Major Crimes unit but eventually comes to depend on her.

Before the hiatus, High Potential introduced Susan Kelechi Watson as Lucia, a.k.a. Karadec’s ex-fiancée. ABC has teased that Watson’s character is “always pursuing what’s next, not out of recklessness, but from a genuine zest for life. She follows her curiosity wherever it leads, be it a new city, a new flavor, or a new chapter.”

Sunjata, 54, recently hinted exclusively to Us Weekly about how Karadec’s personal life will be developed.

“Morgan encounters many people as she navigates her journey,” he shared in September 2025. “She has options. Karadec likely has a few options as well. We’ll see how that unfolds.”

Where Did ‘High Potential’ Leave Off?

High Potential left fans buzzing about the future of the show when Karadec seemed to exhibit jealousy over Morgan spending time with their boss, Wagner (Steve Howey), in season 2.

“We start delving into that as we progress through the season. Our perspective is that it’s uncertain if it’s protection or jealousy,” executive producer and showrunner Todd Harthan exclusively told Us Weekly. “Is he worried about Morgan getting involved in a relationship that could be dangerous or complicated? Or is he beginning to develop genuine feelings for her?”

Harthan elaborated: “It’s that delicate balance we maintain on the show. I don’t want to provide definitive answers regarding his feelings, but we’re exploring it as we dive deeper into the season. Things are going to become increasingly complicated.”

When asked if Karadec understands his feelings for Morgan, Harthan remarked, “They are both still trying to figure that out. Even in TV time, not much has passed between them. It becomes complex when you work together and develop such a deep partnership.”

Harthan didn’t dismiss any possibilities. “He’s still figuring things out. But that’s where we are now,” he added. “It’s still a state of uncertainty, and we aim to be honest about that in our episodes.”

The writer also hinted at Morgan’s many potential love interests.

“We haven’t precisely defined it. But I’ve had extensive discussions with Kaitlin, and she has so many other priorities that take precedence over engaging in another significant relationship. Her main focus is her children, followed by her burgeoning career,” he explained. “There’s just a small part of her life left for personal matters. Engaging in a long-term relationship isn’t something she’s currently pursuing. However, we’re looking for the right moment for that to blossom, but we’ve been cautious in allowing her to delve into a lasting relationship.”
