Chris Evans Unveils the Surprising Aspects of New Fatherhood
Chris Evans is thriving as a proud new father to a daughter, and he couldn’t be happier about it.
“I know it might sound a bit cliché, but fellow parents would understand how much you miss your kids,” the 45-year-old actor shared with The Dodo in an interview released on Tuesday, August 18. He opened up about one of the surprising aspects of parenthood so far. “We’ll put her down for a nap, and I find myself just wanting to check the baby monitor to see what she’s up to.”
He elaborated, “You miss her even when you’re holding her, if that makes sense. It’s such a unique feeling. You just want to be near her all the time.”
Evans and his wife, Alba Baptista, reportedly welcomed their first child, a daughter named Alma Grace, in October 2025. Since Alma’s birth, Evans has observed his cherished dog Dodger stepping into a “protective” role.
“He’s been amazing. So loving and protective. He sleeps outside her room while she naps,” the Marvel star gushed to The Dodo. “He has a great instinct when it comes to young ones, whether it’s a child or a puppy. He’s incredibly gentle.”
According to Evans, Dodger has always known how to conduct himself around kids.
“When I first brought him home over a decade ago, my sister’s children were much younger. During a game of tug-of-war, he instinctively knew to tone it down with my niece,” he reminisced. “He’s just so affectionate, and he does the same with my daughter. It truly warms my heart.”
Evans and Baptista, 29, have maintained a private family life. The couple has been married since 2023 after dating for two years.
“It was a wonderful experience. We actually had two ceremonies,” Evans recounted about their wedding during an October 2023 appearance at New York Comic Con. “One on the East Coast and another in Portugal. Both were beautiful.”
At that time, he added, “Planning a wedding is quite the undertaking. For those who have been married, you know it takes a lot out of you. Now that we’ve gotten through it, we’ve been just savoring life, preparing for fall, which is my favorite season. It’s the best time of year. We’re relaxing and enjoying life while reflecting.”
Baptista is originally from Portugal, and Evans even proposed in her native language.
“She’s Portuguese, so I took the time to learn how to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese. I practiced it all week,” Evans told The Knot in June 2025. “I practiced it so much that while cooking breakfast, I’d find myself saying it out loud. I thought, ‘Oh no, that’s not just a catchy tune stuck in my head! I might spill the beans.’”
