The Drama Unfolds: 3 Must-See Movies to Check Out After the Zendaya Film
Zendaya and Robert Pattinson star in the exciting romantic comedy The Drama, which has just premiered in theaters and features an unforeseen twist that threatens to disrupt the lives of the main characters.
The Drama may be crossing the line of good taste with its concealed elements, but it’s certainly not the only comedic piece that weaves in darker humor.
Watch With Us has compiled a list of three shocking films to catch after The Drama, each embracing those more sinister themes.
While conventional films may be few, the ones that qualify are still quite fascinating to revisit years after their release.
‘Ingrid Goes West’ (2017)
Ingrid Goes West isn’t strictly a love story, but Ingrid Thorburn (Aubrey Plaza) becomes enamored with the concept of Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen), an online influencer. Rather than a romantic pursuit, Ingrid aims to become Taylor’s best friend, prompting her to uproot her life and spend extravagantly for her move to the West Coast.
Once Ingrid settles into her new surroundings, she resorts to some dubious tactics to embed herself into Taylor’s life. However, her plans are endangered by Taylor’s drug addict brother, Nicky Sloane (Billy Magnussen). Grifters recognize fellow grifters, leading Ingrid to eliminate Nicky before all is lost. The plot takes surprising turns, revealing that Taylor is not who Ingrid imagined her to be.
Ingrid Goes West is available for streaming on Tubi.
‘The Lobster’ (2016)
If it’s a Yorgos Lanthimos project, expect an eccentric experience. The Lobster is among the more accessible of Lanthimos’ films, yet it still features surreal elements characteristic of dark comedy. Set in a world where being single is punishable, anyone unable to find a mate within a month and a half faces transformation into their chosen animal. For David (Colin Farrell), that species is a lobster.
David is determined to escape that grim fate, resorting to deception to secure a partner. A rash woman (Rachel Weisz) presents a potential relationship he could accept. However, he must first dodge his supervisors and evade a cult of singles who are as domineering as the societal pressures compelling him to couple up. Without revealing the film’s conclusion, it does pose challenging questions regarding how far the darkness truly extends.
The Lobster is available for streaming on HBO Max.
‘The Opposite of Sex’ (1998)

Christina Ricci plays a twisted character in The Opposite of Sex, not in a literal sense, but through her lack of morality and disregard for the people around her. As 16 and pregnant, Dedee Truitt (Ricci) heartlessly pursues Matt Mateo (Ivan Sergei), the boyfriend of her half-brother, Bill Truitt (Martin Donovan), who took her in during a time of need.
Upon eloping with Matt, Dedee becomes the target of Bill and his friend, Lucia De Lury (Lisa Kudrow), who are on a mission to find them. Meanwhile, the father of her baby, Randy Cates (William Lee Scott), is also searching for her. The resulting chaos leads to heartbreak and shattered friendships.
The Opposite of Sex is available to stream on Tubi.
