Numerous celebrities revealed in 2025 that they are welcoming new additions to their families. In November, both Carly Rae Jepsen and Cole M.G.N. announced their first baby, while 90 Day Fiancé stars Emily and Kobe Bieberly shared they are preparing for baby No. 4. By the end of that month, Lindsay Arnold and Hallmark actress Erin Krakow also revealed their pregnancy news […]

Plaza’s late husband, Jeff Baena, passed away in 2025, following their quiet separation a year prior.

Plaza and Abbott, known for his role as Charlie Dattolo in HBO’s Girls, collaborated in 2020 on the film Black Bear. They later reconnected for the Off-Broadway play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea three years later.

Abbott spoke about Plaza during a November 2023 interview with Vogue, reflecting on the collaborative bond they forged while starring in Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.

While discussing how he aimed to engage both the audience and Plaza, Abbott remarked, “We’re the ones doing it every night, eight times a week. So I think there’s a level of — without straying too far from the script — keeping it fresh for us and making sure we’re having fun on stage, while staying engaged.”

The couple had not publicly acknowledged their relationship before the news of Plaza’s pregnancy emerged.

Regarding Plaza’s past marriage to Baena, the filmmaker, the couple dated for over a decade before secretly marrying in a 2021 ceremony. They quietly separated in September 2024.

In January 2025, Baena tragically died by suicide at the age of 47. Us Weekly reported that he was discovered inside his Los Angeles home by his dog walker.

A spokesperson for Plaza expressed to Us that Baena’s death was “an unfathomable tragedy,” continuing, “We are profoundly grateful to everyone who has offered their support. Please respect our privacy during this hard time.”

Following Baena’s passing, Plaza made her first public appearance during the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special in February 2025. While introducing musical guests Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard, she wore a tie-dye shirt, which seemed to be a subtle tribute to her late husband, as she previously mentioned that Baena “really got into tie-dying” during the pandemic.
