Kylie Is Rethinking Everything After Discovering Jason Kelce’s Puppy Names
If you’ve ever found yourself in a lengthy debate with your partner over something completely inconsequential while your kids chime in with their own opinions, then you’re experiencing the Jason and Kylie Kelce saga.
The retired Eagles center and his wife recently welcomed a German Shepherd puppy from the Pennsylvania SPCA, transforming what should have been a straightforward “welcome home” moment into an extended naming dispute.
For Kylie, it feels familiar — the same discussions they endure every time they try to agree on a name, whether for a baby or a pet.
Kylie Kelce Unveils Their New Puppy
Kylie first revealed the puppy on the March 31 FAFO episode, mentioning she intended to name her “Bernadette.” Seems simple enough, right? Not in the Kelce household.
By the April 2 episode of her Not Gonna Lie podcast, Kylie mentioned the dog was now called “Matilda” — though she sounded uncertain. She also shared that “Broomhilda” had been a serious option, thanks to her husband.
“And I’m not joking. Jason genuinely thought we would name a dog Broomhilda,” she remarked at the time.
If you know a Jason in your life — the dad who offers overly confident suggestions during family decisions — you understand the dynamics here. Kylie clearly does, as she highlighted her husband’s naming instincts humorously.
“I hope people remember this when they question our four children’s names because do you see what I’m dealing with?” she joked.
Jason Kelce Didn’t Stop at Broomhilda for the Puppy Name
By the April 8 episode of the New Heights podcast, co-hosted by Jason and his brother, Travis Kelce, the name had once again changed.
“This is Frida, or as we all call her, Freddie. Everyone around the house calls her Freddie,” he revealed about the puppy.
Jason confirmed the pup’s name — for now — is Frida, with Freddie as the nickname. But, of course, he had more names to propose.
“I’m referring to her as Gunda,” Jason quipped in a mock German accent. “Gunda. Because I prefer that name. ‘Gunda, Gunda, sit! Gunda, sit!’”
When Travis asked why he was adopting a different accent, Jason had a witty defense: “She’s German.”
The Couple’s Daughter Doesn’t Approve of the Puppy Name
The highlight of the episode? Their 6-year-old daughter, Wyatt, made a brief appearance and immediately corrected her dad.
“It’s not Gunda — it’s Freddie!” she exclaimed.
Nothing humbles a former NFL lineman quicker than being corrected by his first grader on camera.
Jason and Kylie are parents to four daughters: Wyatt, 6, Elliotte, 5, Bennett, 3, and Finn, 1. If Wyatt is already overruling her dad on the podcast, the teenage years will surely be quite the spectacle.
Jason and Kylie Kelce Hope for a New Beginning After Losing Their Previous Dog
The adoption carries emotional significance for the family. In March 2025, Kylie took to Instagram to announce that her cherished Irish Wolfhound named Baloo had passed away.
“We were fortunate to have 7 years with the sweetest, goofiest, and most loving dog ever. All he wanted were carbs and belly rubs,” she shared in her post.
Baloo’s passing came just a year after the Kelce family grieved the loss of another Irish Wolfhound named Winnie.
While the ongoing name debate is undeniably amusing, there’s a heartwarming aspect to this lively family opening their home to a new puppy. No matter if she becomes Frida, Freddie, or — against all odds — Gunda, this German Shepherd has found her place in a loving, laughter-filled household full of strong opinions.
