Is Supriya Ganesh’s Return to Pitt Possible After Her Unexpected Departure?

The Pitt has written off Supriya Ganesh prior to season 3, but is there a chance the actress could return as Dr. Samira Mohan?

“I’m not sure. I doubt it, but anything is possible,” executive producer R. Scott Gemmill stated during an interview with Variety on Thursday, April 16.

While Gemmill didn’t entirely dismiss the idea, he mentioned, “If there’s a compelling reason and a solid storyline, or if the show requires it, we may consider it. We are still in the early phases of planning for season 3.”

In the season 2 finale, which aired on Thursday, Mohan shared a moment with Robby (Noah Wyle) before he embarked on his spiritual journey. Her status at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center remained uncertain and might not be resolved when season 3 premieres.

“I think Mohan just won’t be on this shift,” Gemmill told TV Insider. “That’s likely the simplest explanation.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that Ganesh, 28, would be leaving the series. The decision sparked disappointment among fans still reeling from Tracy Ifeachor’s departure after season 1.

“The reality in the hospital is that staff comes and goes. We’ve known this since the beginning. It has its pros and cons,” Gemmill elaborated. “It’s beneficial for maintaining freshness, but it can be tough as we say goodbye to characters we’ve come to cherish.”

He continued, “We understand that many characters will come and go, which is just part of the show’s nature. However, Robby will always remain a constant presence.” The future of the remaining cast is uncertain, though Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi are all anticipated to return in season 3.

Ganesh, for her part, shared her thoughts on Mohan’s upcoming journey.

“I believe she is really trying to find a way to remain in Pittsburgh. Given that there’s nothing left for her in Jersey, she wants to stay at the hospital,” she revealed to TV Insider on Thursday. “Her mother was her only connection there, and she’s coming to realize she has several ties here.”

Ganesh added: “I think she’s seeking ways to establish a sense of community. Simultaneously, I hope she considers taking a break. She is showing signs of burnout, reaching an emotional and physical tipping point after experiencing one of her toughest days. I just wish she could redirect her focus.”

The Pitt is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
