Jamie Lynn Spears Sends Daughter Maddie Off to College
Jamie Lynn Spears is joyfully marking her daughter Maddie’s latest accomplishment.
The Zoey 101 star, aged 35, took to Instagram on Wednesday, August 19, to post a series of photos showcasing Maddie, who is now 18, along with her youngest daughter Ivey, 8, as they began their new school chapters—college and third grade, respectively. The photo set included images of Spears with her family in Maddie’s dorm at the University of Southern Mississippi, as well as Ivey proudly displaying her school uniform.
In one of the photos, Maddie embraced her younger sister while they posed next to a bed. Another image featured Maddie and Ivey alongside their mom and her husband, Jamie Watson.
“3rd grader & a COLLEGE STUDENT (definitely crying) 🤍🦅👯♀️😭,” Spears captioned her heartfelt post.
Maddie also posted a collection of photos from her move-in day, expressing, “So bittersweet🥹🥹.”
Spears welcomed Maddie with ex-partner Casey Aldridge in June 2008 before marrying Watson, 44, in 2014, and giving birth to Ivey four years later.
Earlier this year, as Maddie prepared for her high school graduation, Spears reflected on her journey as a mother.
“Welp….the grad invites are sent, the cap and gown arrived, and the last regular day of school is here….I guess the lovely state of denial that I forced myself to be in has to end, bc the reality of time is coming at me like a freight train,” she shared on Instagram in April. “I know the saying ‘the days are long, but the years are short’ is one of the most cliche sayings because it’s heard so often, but I now understand that cliches are widely known for a reason—they ring true throughout every lifetime.”
She continued, “Being able to watch your children grow is one of the most beautiful and fulfilling experiences we can have as humans, and I am deeply grateful for every high and low moment in this journey of motherhood so far. It’s bittersweet; you are incredibly proud of their achievements and excited for their future, yet you also wish they could remain your baby forever.”
In June, Spears and Maddie participated in their first joint interview with People, where they celebrated their tight-knit bond. (Spears announced her pregnancy with her first child at just 16, shortly after her acclaimed Nickelodeon series Zoey 101 ended after four seasons. She and Aldridge separated shortly after Maddie’s birth.)
“It really was just me and her,” Spears shared with the publication. “I had to tell myself, ‘This little girl needs you. You better figure it out.’ I aimed to create a stable and nurturing environment for my daughter.”
Spears also conveyed her immense pride in Maddie as she embarked on her collegiate journey.
“I’m so incredibly proud of her and all that she has achieved, but I also find myself crying in the car because it dawns on me that I won’t have my baby at home every day,” she remarked. “She will always remain my baby.”
