Matt Lauria Discusses Potential Kingdom Reunion Plans

Matt Lauria discussed the possibility of a Kingdom reunion, even though he’s currently busy with Sheriff Country.

“What would it take for me to do more Kingdom? Just a phone call,” Lauria, 43, told Us Weekly exclusively. “That’s all it would take.”

Lauria is ready to reunite with his co-stars “in a heartbeat,” but he has one requirement.

“Just give me six weeks to work on getting my six-pack back,” he joked. “I’m older now than when we started in 2014—12 years have passed. But from what I can tell, everyone’s still in great shape and very active. We could definitely pull it off in no time.”

Kingdom, which aired from 2014 to 2017, was a gritty drama centered on a retired MMA fighter trying to sustain his mixed martial arts gym while navigating the turbulent lives of his sons and fighters. The series featured Lauria alongside strong performances from Frank Grillo, Kiele Sanchez, Jonathan Tucker, Nick Jonas, and Joanna Going.

“I recently ran into Byron Balasco, who’s now part of the CBS and Paramount family, writing for one of the NCIS shows,” Lauria shared with Us about potentially reuniting with Kingdom’s co-showrunner. “We briefly discussed a reunion, and it seems like no one is against it. The experience we had was one of the highlights of our careers.”

Lauria isn’t the only one keen on bringing the show back. Grillo, 60, also expressed his enthusiasm about returning.

“Byron Balasco, Jonathan Tucker, and I were just on a three-way [call] in September 2025,” Grillo mentioned. “We were brainstorming possible ways to make it happen—I’m serious.”

The trio is eager to “come up with some ideas” and “get the band back together” to explore the potential for completing an eight-episode run. Grillo playfully remarked, “We actually discussed that.”

For now, Lauria is excited about continuing to film Sheriff Country, where he portrays the lovable Boone.

“Boone is really embracing Edgewater,” he added. “That journey has allowed him to delve deeper internally and confront his feelings for Mickey, which is typically a line he wouldn’t cross.”

He continued: “But there’s a more human aspect to this. It matters because he’s seen Mickey take a compassionate approach with others, and it has yielded positive results. That played a significant role in Boone confronting his emotions about Mickey — only to have them dismissed.”

Lauria hopes audiences will learn even more about Boone in season 2, stating, “He kept many things to himself — including a secret wife. I’d love to delve deeper into who this character really is.”

Sheriff Country is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
