Morgan Kohan of Sullivan’s Crossing Discusses Maggie and Cal’s Possible Breakup

Sullivan’s Crossing’s Morgan Kohan discusses the possible rift between Maggie and Cal following her kiss with her estranged husband, Liam.

“It’s a significant disruption, regardless of the outcome,” Kohan, 32, revealed exclusively to Us Weekly about the breakup in the episode airing Monday, June 1. “That will definitely shake the foundation of any relationship.”

Kohan added: “Even if you think your relationship is solid — and perhaps the stronger your bond, the tougher it is to navigate — I believe Cal and Maggie are meant to be together, so I remain hopeful for them.”

The third season of Sullivan’s Crossing, available on Netflix since August 2025, previously hinted at Maggie’s ex when she referred to Liam (Marcus Rosner) as a summer fling.

Sullivan’s Crossing took an unexpected twist when Cal met Maggie’s secret husband. But who exactly is Liam? The third season of the popular series, which began streaming on Netflix in August 2025, initially suggested forms of Maggie’s (Morgan Kohan) ex when she talked about Liam (Marcus Rosner) to Lola (Amalia Williamson) as a summer fling she had.

Liam ultimately made an appearance just before season 4, leading Maggie’s boyfriend, Cal (Chad Michael Murray), to discover that she was actually married to Liam.

The fourth season became increasingly complicated for Maggie as she began to grow closer to Liam. Upon learning that he didn’t leave her for a job but had been held captive as a war journalist for three years, Maggie and Liam shared an unexpected kiss.

“I feel like it wasn’t so much a conscious choice for her. Something very physical happened and the shock of it all cracked her open,” Kohan explained. “It was almost as if everything she had kept inside for so long just came rushing out.”

An emotional roller-coaster. Fans have witnessed their favorite couples face heartbreaking splits, from Riverdale’s Cheryl and Toni to Nancy Drew’s Nancy and Ace. Riverdale, which debuted in 2017, first introduced Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) as a sister coping with the loss of her twin brother, Jason (Trevor Stines), before diving into the complexities of her relationships.

Kohan suggested a sense of “inevitability” regarding Maggie and Liam’s resurfacing feelings. While she couldn’t reveal how the love triangle would conclude, she expressed “hope” that fans would be satisfied — and that Rosner could potentially return for future seasons.

“Everyone on set adores Marcus, so we would love to have him around in some capacity,” she expressed. “We’ll see how that unfolds, but as challenging as it is for some audience members, I’m pleased with how much it resonates with viewers.”

Looking forward, Kohan hopes for more chances to explore Maggie’s past prior to her return to the Crossing.

“What I really loved about all of that was doing the flashbacks and really seeing the younger version of Maggie,” she shared with Us. “Observing her fully embrace the moment has been a wonderful experience.”

Sullivan’s Crossing is currently available to stream on Netflix. Season 4 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
