Jennifer Lopez Takes a Subtle Jab at Marc Anthony Over Parenting Their Twins
Jennifer Lopez seemed to indirectly address her ex-husband Marc Anthony while discussing her experience as a single mother to their twins, Emme and Max.
“It’s crazy. And now I can really look at my life, appreciate it for what it is and what I’ve created for myself and be really happy,” said the Office Romance actress, 56, during a recent episode of Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett’s “Smartless” podcast. “Both my kids got into all their colleges and received scholarships, and they’re going where they want to go.”
Lopez commended herself for her dedication to Max and Emme, now 18, subtly implying she handled most responsibilities herself.
“I was like, ‘You did that s*** all by yourself.’ That’s fantastic. Like, ‘You had very little help,’ you know?” she added.
Us Weekly has contacted Anthony’s spokesperson for a response.
Anthony and Lopez married in 2004, welcoming Max and Emme four years later. (The Latin singer also has a daughter, Arianna, and a son, Chase, with ex-girlfriend Debbie Rosado, and sons Cristian and Ryan with ex-wife Dayanara Torres. Anthony and current wife Nadia Ferreira welcomed their son, Marco, in June 2023, and are expecting baby No. 2.)
In 2011, Lopez and Anthony publicly announced their separation after seven years of marriage.
“We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters,” the couple shared in a joint statement at the time. “It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy.”
The former couple finalized their divorce three years later. Despite their separation, they have maintained a cooperative relationship for their children.
“When my marriage ended, it was not easy to find forgiveness,” Lopez reflected in an April 2016 cover story for W magazine. “It wasn’t the dream I had hoped for, and it would have been easier to nurture resentment, disappointment, and anger. Marc is the father of my children, and that’s never going away. So, I have to work to make things right, and that is, by far, the hardest work I do.”
Anthony, for his part, has previously mentioned that he and Lopez remain “close” after their breakup.
“We trust each other. I was proud of her,” he said of Lopez following the release of her memoir True Love during a 2015 interview with Meredith Vieira. “I know what it takes, and I know her very, very well. I just did everything in my power to be supportive of her.”
