Off Campus Creator Hints at Season 2 Changes Following Unexpected Cast Departure

Off Campus Louisa Levy has revealed that season 2 will have some notable changes — and it’s not just due to a cast departure.

During Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest on Saturday, June 27, Levy hinted at what fans can anticipate: “There will be fewer live performances. Without Hannah’s songwriting journey, we don’t have that element to integrate.”

Levy also mentioned that Josh Heuston’s exit influenced the direction of the season.

“With Josh and After Hours absent this season, we don’t have their bands,” she explained. “However, there will still be plenty of music presented in different formats. Light music will still feature in the show.”

In closing, Levy remarked: “The essence of the show is captured in those needle drops and songs that enhance a moment — in addition to the score itself.”

Based on the Off-Campus book series by Elle Kennedy, the series revolves around an elite ice hockey team — and the women in their lives — as they navigate love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, forging strong friendships and lasting connections while transitioning into adulthood,” as stated in the official synopsis.

Season 1 focuses on the “exciting and playful ‘opposites attract’ romance between introverted songwriter Hannah and Briar University’s star hockey player, Garrett.” (The show features characters portrayed by Ella Bright, Belmont Cameli, Mika Abdalla, Antonio Cipriano, Jalen Thomas Brooks and Stephen Kalyn.)

Following the show’s renewal, Levy confirmed earlier this year that Justin would not be in season 2, telling TV Guide, “Not this season, but I love Josh and would not rule out bringing Justin back in the future.”

She added: “We never got to meet Stella, who he ends up with in the book. So, there might be a way to incorporate him into a future season.”

Levy emphasized that Justin’s absence wasn’t originally planned. “We don’t have him available next season, but never say never,” she noted.

Heuston, 29, spoke exclusively to Us Weekly about a potential return, stating, “That decision is above my pay grade, but I just hope Justin finds love and continues to focus on his happiness while making music.”

The actor expressed his hope that Justin would do “well” for himself.

“Justin is a romantic at heart. I believe things turned out the way they did, but he’s definitely going to continue following his passions. He might just write some beautiful music about his heartbreak and then return to find love,” he shared.

At one point, Heuston saw Justin longing for someone else after forming an initial bond with Hannah. Unfortunately, the fictional couple couldn’t thrive due to Hannah’s relationship with Garrett.

“I aimed to give depth to Justin’s character. If he fell into the stereotype of just another cool musician on campus, he wouldn’t evoke the same affection,” he shared with Us. “I focused on making him as relatable and genuine as possible.”

Off Campus is available for streaming on Prime Video.
