Today Show Security Guard Dismissed After Melvin Break-In: Report

Reports indicate that NBC has terminated a security guard following an incident where an intruder accessed the Today show set and confronted cohost Craig Melvin on Thursday, July 16.

Page Six and TMZ reported that the guard was let go on the same day after a man managed to bypass security at the show’s New York City studio. The man was allegedly seeking meteorologist Al Roker, but instead confronted Melvin, 47, reportedly lunging at him and shouting a racial slur.

Us Weekly has reached out to NBC for a statement.

“This morning, there was a security breach at the TODAY show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized zone in a vestibule near Studio 1A,” a spokesperson for the Today show said in a statement to Us on Thursday. “The individual approached anchor Craig Melvin, who informed security. The individual was apprehended and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. No confrontation occurred, and no injuries were reported. TODAY is fully cooperating with law enforcement in this investigation.”
