Lindsay Hubbard Breaks Down Over Feelings of Abandonment in the City
Lindsay Hubbard opens up in the upcoming episode of In the City, discussing her “abandonment issues” and her breakup with ex-fiancé Carl Radke.
“I can’t say it’s entirely their fault,” Lindsay, 39, shares with Kenny Martin during a sneak peek from Us Weekly on June 30. “And I can’t claim it’s all my fault either.”
Lindsay adds, “I believe I tend to select partners who aren’t necessarily good for me.”
She reflects on her relationship with Summer House co-star Carl, 41, with whom she was engaged for a year before he ended their wedding plans in August 2023.

“Carl had a myriad of issues he’s still addressing,” Lindsay explains. “But at the end of the day, what happened? He left me.” (Prior to and after his relationship with Lindsay, Carl has spoken candidly about his challenges with sobriety and the impact of his brother’s overdose.)
She mentions that Carl isn’t the only person to leave her, highlighting a recurring theme in her relationships.
“What happened with my baby daddy? He abandoned me,” Lindsay states, referring to Turner Kufe, from whom she separated in early 2025 after welcoming their daughter, Gemma, in December 2024.
Since becoming a mother, Lindsay has expressed feelings of abandonment stemming from her childhood, particularly from her mother, who left her and her sibling when they were young. Throughout Summer House, she has referred to her aunt Rhonda as her surrogate mother and confidante.
Kenny, introduced during In the City’s May premiere, shares a similar story, revealing that it was his father who “was absent” for much of his life. (Fans witnessed Kenny’s emotional reunion with his father on the June 23 episode of the Bravo series.)

He acknowledges that he also felt abandoned during that period, which he says is mirrored in his own romantic experiences. “I had an 11-year relationship that ended. Then another eight-year relationship that didn’t work either. I lost my mom. These feelings linger that it won’t work out.”
Kenny confides that he sometimes finds himself “pushing relationships” to test their commitment, seeking reassurance of loyalty. (Earlier in the season, concerns arose about his relationship with girlfriend Whitney Fransway, who moved from California to New York to live with him after he mentioned there was no “spark.”)
Lindsay concurs, saying, “You want to see if you can push them away to determine if they’ll really leave you.”
The Summer House star expresses, “I’ll be dealing with abandonment issues for life. The best I can do is strive to understand and manage them.”
Lindsay shares that having her daughter has aided her in coping with feelings of inadequacy.
“Looking at my daughter, Gemma, the fact that I became a mother… I apologize for getting emotional. It kind of validates my feelings; I question, ‘How could my mother do this?’” With tears, Lindsay explains, “I could never walk away from my baby.”
Even though Lindsay hasn’t reestablished a relationship with her mother, she told Us in May that she finds joy in being a busy parent.
“While I may not give mom advice, becoming a parent has shifted my perspective,” she shared. “This experience has deepened my protective instincts and enhanced my ability to support my fellow cast members.”
