Mormon Wives’ Layla Taylor Announces She’s Bisexual and in a Relationship with a Woman
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Layla Taylor has publicly come out as bisexual, revealing she is currently in a relationship with a woman.
“It’s something I honestly didn’t know how to address for a long time… I’m gay and I’m bi, dating both women and men,” Taylor, 25, shared during the June 29 episode of the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast.
Taylor reflected on how she was not ready to confront those feelings in her younger years.
“Growing up, I didn’t fit in for many reasons. In a predominantly white area, being a little Black girl made me stand out more than I realized,” she explained. “I often watched shows like Pretty Little Liars and saw Shay Mitchell kissing a girl and thought, ‘Wait, why is that hot?’”
She continued: “I didn’t know what those feelings meant because I lacked queer representation around me. There wasn’t anyone I could look to and say, ‘OK, this is normal.’ Being Mormon at one point, I didn’t feel pressured to conform, but I just didn’t have role models who mirrored that experience.”
Taylor mentioned that she was unsure if her feelings were just a phase before marrying her ex-husband, Clayton Wessell. “For a long time, I downplayed it. But now I feel like I’m in a phase of truly being myself and showing every part of Layla to the world. I’m very proud to be out,” she expressed.
The reality star, who has two sons with Clayton, credited her recent breakup with Mason McWhorter for helping her embrace her identity.

“I never felt like I could authentically focus on it,” she added. “Honestly, that breakup was a blessing in disguise because now I can focus completely on Layla and discover who I really am.”
Taylor revealed she is dating a woman—whose name she didn’t disclose—after they connected through social media after she “liked” one of her photos.
“[Women are] generally more emotionally aware and patient,” Taylor said about her current relationship compared to past ones. “At least the person I’m talking to now has been very understanding and allows me to take this at my pace since it’s all new to me. [It’s about] understanding and being there for me.”
During her podcast appearance, Taylor was asked about her inner circle’s knowledge of her sexuality. She confirmed that most of her loved ones, including the cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, were unaware.
“No, [they don’t know]. We’re in a different place than before, and though there’s no bad blood, we’ve been somewhat separate since the filming pause due to Taylor Frankie Paul’s legal issues. We haven’t seen each other in person lately,” she explained.
She added, “I want to tell them in person, so while they might see this news before I get to them, I plan to have that conversation the next time we meet. For now, no one from the group is aware.”
