Madonna’s ‘Danceteria’ Behind-the-Scenes Video Stars Kate Moss and Others

Madonna is urging everyone to rise and dance — enlisting some of the biggest names in pop culture to kick off the movement.

The “Queen of Pop” took to Instagram on Monday, July 6, to share an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creation of her new “Danceteria” segment from her forthcoming project, Confessions II: The Film.

This captivating tribute to club culture features on Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II, which launched on Friday, July 3, and is expected to become the soundtrack for dance floors worldwide this summer.

“This is a journey down memory lane,” Madonna, 67, remarks as the film begins with a series of nostalgic images that whisk viewers back to the pulsating atmosphere of Danceteria, the iconic NYC nightclub that dominated the scene from 1980 to 1986.

What starts with the star humorously hunched over in a urinal evolves into a breakdown of the music video, revealed on Monday.

In the clip, the icon gracefully navigates through a bustling bathroom in true after-hours style, joined by well-known personalities like Kate Moss, Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard E. Grant, Gwendoline Christie, and Odessa A’zion.

“I’ve waited my entire life to do this,” Gwendoline Christie admits to the camera, before the scene shifts to her complimenting Benedict Cumberbatch on his smooth dance moves.

Next, viewers enjoy a lighthearted moment between Madonna and Cumberbatch right before they hit the dance floor. “Are you ready to dance?” Madonna inquires, to which the actor responds, “Oh, yeah.”

Throughout the video, Madonna pays tribute to her early days in the New York nightlife. One dancer is seen wearing a sparkling “Like a Virgin” tank top, and in another scene, Madonna places a cassette tape into her bust while sitting beside Kate Moss on a bathroom sink.

“That felt like stepping back into the 1980s,” remarks long-time friend Debi Mazar, one of several friends Madonna mentions in the song. Mazar shares that they reunited for the video after 40 years of friendship.

“It’s a nostalgic piece, yet still modern,” Mazar tells DJ Honey Dijon during a break. “We really need happiness in the world right now,” she adds, “we need a dance record.”

A number of other famous faces appear as well, including Richard E. Grant and Arca, who can be seen singing alongside the star in a bathroom stall, alongside Vision Farley showcasing his cheeky dance routine with her.

Additional stars featured in the segment include musicians Shygirl and Sabrina Carpenter, soccer star Cole Palmer, actress Julie Garner, and Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon.
