Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling Welcome Rescue Dog Charlie into Their Family

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are adding an even more paw-sitive vibe to their family.

“Meet Charlie, our latest addition to the familia,” Mendes, 52, shared on Instagram on Friday, July 31, posting adorable photos of herself snuggled with a gray dog. “We’re smitten! Huge thanks to @californiadoodlerescues ♥️.”

Despite adopting Charlie, Mendes and Gosling, 45, who have been a couple since 2011, haven’t revealed much more about their private lives. They previously adopted another rescue from the same organization, named Magic, in 2024.

Before welcoming Charlie and Magic, Mendes and Gosling had a rescue dog named George, who sadly passed away in 2016.

“He left us in December. It’s ironic to say ‘dog’ because George had an air about him that suggested being a dog was beneath him,” Gosling remarked during an appearance on the now-closed Ellen DeGeneres Show in October 2017, sharing news of the 17-year-old dog’s passing. “He wouldn’t perform tricks. If you asked him to sit, you had to persuade him it was in his best interest.”

The Project Hail Mary star elaborated, “As George grew older, he started to resemble a faded rock star. He became a bit ‘skinny-fat’ with big hair, no teeth, and open sores, but still had that charisma. One time at an outdoor café, he looked so melancholy sitting on the pavement. When someone got up to use the restroom, he decided to hop into their seat and joined the table like a true gentleman, surveying the scene as if to say, ‘Yeah, this is my spot now.’”

In addition to their furry family members, Mendes and Gosling are proud parents to their daughters, Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, 9.

“I hope I won’t look back in 20 years and think, ‘Oh no,’ because I genuinely don’t want to raise my kids through fear,” Mendes expressed in a 2024 episode of the “Parenting & You” podcast, sharing her intention to raise her children differently from her own upbringing. “It’s an emotional topic for me; I want to ensure I’m not unknowingly placing stress on them due to the fears I experienced as a child.”

Eva Mendes has complicated feelings about April but considers her “biggest blessing” to be the birth of her daughter, Amada, on April 29, 2016. “Oh April,” the actress, 50, wrote on Instagram on Monday, April 1, alongside two photos of herself outdoors. “I have such a mixed relationship with you. Gosling has also opened up about parenthood, telling the Wall Street Journal later that year that he’s moved away from darker film roles.

“I avoid roles that might lead me to a dark place,” the Barbie star shared. “I try to read the atmosphere at home and consider what’s best for everyone. Every decision I make is done thinking about Eva and our family first.”
