Authorities have issued a statement after Perez Hilton was seen in a troubling TikTok livestream, causing concern for the well-being of the internet personality.
Footage viewed by Us late Tuesday, August 4, depicted a naked and injured Hilton, 48, appearing to engage in self-harm. Representatives from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office later commented on the situation.
“The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports about an individual live-streaming self-harm activities on social media,” the statement, shared with Us, commenced. “Deputies quickly identified the individual’s location, spoke with family members on-site, and verified that he was alone inside.”
The statement continued, “In several cases involving individuals facing a mental health crisis or harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and communication opportunities.”
It concluded, “Currently, deputies have tactfully stepped back while continuing to monitor the situation.”
Us has reached out to Hilton’s representative, whose TikTok account has now been deactivated, as well as to the sheriff’s office for a response.
Hilton has been open about the health crises he faced this year. On March 21, he posted photos from a hospital room at Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Clark County, Nevada, on Instagram. “March madness indeed! I have quite the story to share,” he captioned the post.
Later that month, he posted a YouTube video revealing his 21-day hospital stay due to sepsis, a severe reaction to infection that can lead to organ failure.
“It was such a slow recovery. Two weeks of illness followed by another week before I started to improve,” he explained in the video. “The last week was terrible because I had already been in the hospital for two weeks. I just wanted to go home, to be with my children.”
Hilton is a single father to three kids: Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8.
A month later, Hilton was hospitalized again after suffering a major blood clot, which necessitated emergency surgery. He remained in the hospital until the Easter holiday.
In an April 5 Instagram video, he informed fans that although the surgery was successful, he was still in considerable pain. “I’m trying to avoid pain medication, but the pain is at an 11 out of 10,” he stated in the clip. “The surgery occurred on Friday morning, and the incision was below my knee. The same area that caused me the most pain was where they inserted the instruments, so sending prayers or positive vibes for a swift recovery would be wonderful.”
