Bobby Bones Reclaims His Dancing with the Stars Trophy
Bobby Bones has been reunited with his Dancing With the Stars mirrorball trophy.
“Check out what just arrived in the mail,” Bones, 46, shared on Instagram on Thursday, August 6, posting a photo of himself lounging on a couch next to his well-deserved championship trophy.
Bones, who won DWTS season 27 alongside his professional dance partner Sharna Burgess, disclosed in November 2025 that he returned his mirrorball to ABC after hearing comments from former host Tom Bergeron about his win. (Bergeron, 71, remarked in a now-famous Parade interview that he was “shocked” by Bones’ victory.)
“I try not to take things personally, especially with matters like this, but it was hurtful,” Bones expressed in a social media video at that time, reflecting on his choice to return the trophy. “And not just because of what was said, but more because of who said it.”
He went on to say, “I didn’t even want to be on the show. My initial intention was not to participate in Dancing with the Stars. I was working on a different project at the network when they invited me to promote the show. Should I not show up and give it everything? Should I throw it away and not strive to win? … Six years later, I’m still getting hit by stray comments out of the blue. So, I sent the trophy back because, obviously, they don’t want me to be part of the show. I don’t want to be in a place that doesn’t want me.”
Bergeron eventually apologized to Bones.
“I felt awful about the way I expressed my genuine surprise at your win,” he told Bones during a March episode of the music host’s “BobbyCast” podcast. “When asked about the most shocking elimination, I couldn’t think of one. I wish I had framed it as, ‘While I wasn’t shocked, I was surprised when Bobby Bones won.’ I wasn’t alone in my surprise, Bobby. However, the fact that my words hurt you and led you to return your trophy made me feel terrible.”
Following their discussion, Bones confided to Us that he regretted sending the mirrorball trophy back.
“I wish I could retrieve my Dancing With the Stars trophy,” Bones exclusively told Us in May. “I let my feelings get the best of me, and in a rush, I returned my trophy to ABC. I have no idea where it ended up. I really value that trophy. If anyone watching this has my mirrorball trophy, please send it back to me. I would truly love to have it again.”
