Netflix Executive Responds to Speculation About Meghan Markle’s Role in The Gentlemen

A Netflix executive provided a vague answer to speculation regarding Meghan Markle possibly joining the cast of season 3 of The Gentlemen.

“All bets are off,” stated Manda Levin, Netflix’s scripted chief in the U.K., during the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday, August 26, in response to a question about the Duchess of Sussex’s potential role in the series.

This intriguing remark follows a report from Us, revealing that Meghan, 45, is in preliminary discussions to feature in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s crime series. However, there is no clarity on what character—if any—she would portray.

Netflix confirmed the renewal of season 3 on Monday, August 24, but did not mention Meghan’s potential casting.

“Ambition can’t be tamed. The Gentlemen Season 2, featuring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, premieres NEXT THURSDAY,” Netflix announced on X. “As for Season 3? Consider it official.”

Meghan Markle stepped away from acting prior to her 2018 royal wedding to Prince Harry, before relocating to the United States. Now that the couple is planning their return to England, could an acting comeback be on the horizon for Meghan? After landing several TV and film roles, she notably played paralegal-turned-attorney Rachel Zane.

The Gentlemen centers on English aristocrat Eddie Horniman (James), who inherits a vast industrial marijuana business following his father’s passing.

If Meghan participates in season 3, it would mark her first television role since leaving the legal drama Suits in 2018, just before marrying Prince Harry.

The casting speculations arise as Meghan and Harry return to the U.K. six years after stepping down from their senior royal duties and moving to Montecito, California. The Duke of Sussex, 41, and his wife arrived at Birmingham Airport with their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

In light of their move, a source exclusively revealed to Us that Harry is “not as happy in the U.S. as he is in the U.K.” The insider noted that both he and Meghan are “open to a new chapter.”

King Charles III confirmed that Meghan and Harry will remain non-working members of the royal family, adhering to the couple’s previous wishes and agreements. Harry is anticipated to dedicate more time to U.K.-based charities and patronages, while Meghan is expected to continue managing her As Ever brand abroad.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be renewing their $100 million multiyear deal with Netflix, which is set to expire in September, a source confirmed to Us Weekly. “The decision was mutual,” the insider reported. The U.K.’s The Sun was the first to break this story.

Their return to the U.K. may facilitate Harry’s efforts to reconcile with his estranged father, Charles, 77, and his brother Prince William. Reports suggest that Charles became aware of Harry and Meghan’s move on August 16 and welcomes the chance to see them privately.

As for William, 44, former royal butler Grant Harrold mentioned to Us that while the move may not “completely heal” the divide between the brothers, it might serve as a step forward. “It will take much more than that. Too much has occurred. Actions will speak louder than words,” Harrold said. “I believe they will present a united front, but behind the scenes, the situation is more complex.”
