Chad Lowe Shared His Joy as a ‘Girl Dad’ Prior to His Daughter’s Passing
Chad Lowe expressed his joy about being a dad to daughters two years prior to the heartbreaking passing of his 13-year-old daughter, Fiona.
“I’m a girl dad. It’s fascinating because [I’m] always wanting to have my own experiences and not live in the shadow or follow in the footsteps of someone else,” Lowe, 58, shared during a 2024 episode of the “Still Here” podcast.
“Having daughters is such an incredible privilege,” continued the Pretty Little Liars star. “I get to embrace the experience of being a girl dad.”
Lowe, who has Fiona and daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10, with his wife Kim Painter, mentioned that while there are certainly “challenges” in raising three girls, this journey has offered him fresh perspectives on life.
“I view the world through their eyes, and I recognize the various injustices from their standpoint,” he elaborated. “It’s not all doom and gloom. Society is evolving. We may very well witness the election of the first female president, who knows?”
Chad, the younger sibling of actor Rob Lowe, remarked, “[We’re] truly empowering women and acknowledging the immense contributions of women. Personally, I believe if women were leading nations, the world would be considerably more peaceful.”
On September 29, Chad and Painter, 52, released a statement to People, TMZ, and various media platforms announcing Fiona’s passing.
“We are utterly heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the statement expressed, describing their cherished middle child as “a loving young girl who was bright, creative, and had a passion for dance.”
The family further shared, “She was cherished by her sisters and profoundly loved by her parents. She truly was the light of our lives. Her loss has left our family devastated, and we kindly ask for prayers and privacy during this time. Almost a year before Fiona’s death, Chad took to Instagram to honor her special 13th birthday.
“Celebrating Fiona officially turning into a teenager today!! Continue dancing through life, FiBear! Love you soooo much!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” he wrote in the post back then.
Chad and his family faced another tragedy in January 2025 when they lost their home in the wildfires near Los Angeles.
“This is what remains of a decade spent building our lives. Our hearts are shattered, but we find solace in all the kind messages and offers of help,” he shared on Instagram at that time along with a photo of the devastation. “We are alright and will be alright. We have each other. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.”
