Scarlett Johansson’s Skincare Line, The Outset, Closes Its Doors
Scarlett Johansson bids farewell to her beauty brand.
“After an incredible journey, The Outset has decided to cease operations,” her brand announced on its official website on Monday, September 28. “We are immensely thankful to everyone who included us in their routines and supported us throughout this time.”
The website confirmed that while online shopping has “now concluded, all existing orders will be fulfilled as usual.”
Johansson, 41, initially revealed her plans to launch a beauty line in 2021, describing it as a passion project she had long dreamed of bringing to life.
“The transformative power of beauty has fascinated me since childhood,” she stated at the time. “My mother nurtured my love for self-care from my early teen years. Several years back, I chose to step back from beauty endorsements to create something authentic to me.”
Cofounder Kate Foster remarked, “We take pride in having developed a brand that fills a gap in the market and meets real consumer needs.” She added, “Our brand platform is unique and offers tremendous potential for growth and development. This is truly just the start.”
The brand, which offered serums, lip balms, cleansers, moisturizers, masks, and more, was available at Sephora, Nordstrom, and other beauty retailers.
In April 2025, Business of Fashion reported that Foster, 48, had stepped down from the brand.
Dedicated customers quickly expressed their reactions to the brand’s closure via Instagram on Monday.
“Nooooo, please don’t shut down completely! This is the best skincare I’ve found for my sensitive skin,” one user wrote, suggesting alternatives: “What about our recurring subscriptions? I haven’t received any email regarding cancellations or updates.”
Another customer added, “I’m heartbroken that you are halting production. 😭 This was my go-to skincare brand. I wish there had been more visibility in this process. I would have stocked up much more knowing that online ordering would end so suddenly.”
