Rob Lowe’s Family: Wife Sheryl Berkoff and Their Two Sons, Plus Brother Chad Lowe
Rob Lowe and his spouse Sheryl Berkoff have witnessed their two sons embracing the family legacy over the years.
Their love story began on a blind date in 1983, and the 9-1-1: Lone Star star reconnected with Sheryl when she was a makeup artist on the set of his film Bad Influence in 1990. Their chemistry blossomed, leading them to fall in love and marry just a year later.
In the wake of their 1991 wedding, Rob embarked on a recovery journey from years of substance abuse. He later expressed deep gratitude towards Berkoff for her unwavering support during that challenging time. “Listen, she may have saved my life, really,” he shared with Entertainment Tonight in May 2021.
The Parks and Recreation star elaborated on his experience, stating, “I mean, she met me when I was at the end of my ’80s run of wild boy craziness. She was worth the change. I feel incredibly fortunate to have met her. Maybe I could have changed on my own, but it’s a big maybe. When I met her, I realized if I couldn’t make it work with her, it wouldn’t work with anyone else.”
Rob and Sheryl welcomed their first son, Matthew, in 1993. The family grew to four with the birth of their second son, John, in 1995.
Rob takes pride in his close bond with his children, considering it his greatest achievement as a parent. “As they’ve grown, they require less discipline,” Rob noted in a March 2019 interview with Fatherly. “I’ve shifted to focusing on friendship. I cherish our time together, discussing work, career progression, and enjoying activities like golfing or attending Dodgers games. It’s the best dynamic I could wish for.”
When it comes to career advice for his children, the St. Elmo’s Fire actor has shared, “Find a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Interestingly, Rob’s children share his enthusiasm for the entertainment industry and an inquisitive spirit about the unknown. Together, they explored some of the nation’s most intriguing legends and tales in the 2017 series The Lowe Files.
John has carved out his own acting career, featuring alongside Rob in projects like The Grinder and Holiday in the Wild. In 2023, John and Rob co-created the Netflix comedy Unstable, where they portray a father-son duo, Jackson and Ellis. The show focuses on their attempts to mend their strained relationship while saving Ellis’ biotech firm.
“This show is about a son striving to step out of his father’s shadow, and I am literally that son wanting to do the same,” John expressed in a March 2023 interview with Variety. “I have come to view it differently: sometimes, when you’re lost in a forest, the only way out is to delve deeper into it.”
Rob’s brother, Chad Lowe, is also a successful actor and father of three.
