Kylie Kelce’s Secret Strategy to Sneak a Cat Past Jason Kelce
Kylie Kelce remains fully committed to her mission of adding a pet cat to her family with husband Jason Kelce.
“I am in a significant discussion with my husband about getting a cat,” Kylie, 32, revealed to guest Kat Dennings on the Thursday, March 13, episode of her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast. “Our eldest daughter recently told Dad, ‘We’re going to get a cat.’ He replied, ‘Kylie, did you tell her we’re getting a cat?’ I exclaimed, ‘I swear, it wasn’t me.’”
Kylie then humorously mentioned that she later asked 5-year-old Wyatt if she “wanted to visit the ASPCA” to adopt a kitten. (Along with Wyatt, Kylie and Jason, 37, also have daughters Ellie, 3, and Bennett, 2, and are expecting another little girl.)
“That’s where we always adopted our cats [when I was younger],” Kylie shared. “My husband has told our daughters that cats are poisonous. He is really trying to avoid getting a cat, which is amusing … [because] he grew up with a cat named Flash, who he was always amazed by when she would catch birds mid-air in the backyard.”
Kylie has expressed her wish to adopt a cat since 2023 — she and Jason also have a dog named Baloo. At that time, she even sought assistance from her brother-in-law, Travis Kelce, on their sibling’s “New Heights” podcast, as he “might have developed a liking for cats.” (Travis, 35, is currently dating Taylor Swift, who is well-known for her love of cats and has three feline pets.)
However, Jason has consistently dismissed Kylie’s pleas to bring another furry friend into their home.
Dennings, a cat owner herself, suggested some strategies for Kylie to win over the retired NFL center.
“Everyone loves a kitten; they’re adorable,” Dennings, 38, remarked. “They’re only kittens for a fleeting moment and then they become cats. So, you might want to consider taking him to meet a slightly older cat who is already spunky; he might see that cat in action and fall in love.”
Dennings’ advice was “super insightful” for Kylie, who has a backup plan ready.
“One day, I’m just going to take our kids to the local rescue, choose a cat, and bring it home,” the expectant podcaster playfully remarked. “I’m going to fully commit [to adopting], and I’ll ensure that it’s a day or two when he is away on a trip.”
Kylie continued, “At that point, the girls will be saying, ‘This is the best thing ever!’, and they’ll bond with the cat, enjoying all the affection — or simply observe the cat if it’s not a cuddler. By the time he comes back, he can’t be the villain by sending the cat back.”
According to Kylie, if Jason attempts to return the animal, he will “be met by four little girls looking at him like, ‘Dad, this is our cat.’”
“This plan makes a lot of sense,” Kylie concluded. “[Kat,] I truly value your support in this matter.”
