Ashley and Wynonna Judd Share Family Secrets in Lifetime Documentary
The Judd Family: Truth Be Told trailer reveals the hidden “secrets” of the well-known family.
“I felt immense pride in their achievements,” Ashley Judd remarked in the trailer for the Lifetime documentary, which premiered on Thursday, April 10, speaking about her late mother, Naomi Judd, and sister Wynonna Judd.
Wynonna, 60, shared a more somber perspective. (She and Naomi formed the country music duo The Judds from 1983 until 1991.)
“On stage, it was enchanting, but off stage,” she said, pausing and inhaling deeply. “I was aware that something was amiss.”
Wynonna mentioned, “Being so close to your mother is both a blessing and a burden.”

In another part of the trailer, Ashley, 56, is seen in tears.
“She had no idea about my childhood struggles,” she remarked, though it’s uncertain whom Ashley was referencing.
Various voiceovers accompanied images of the Judd family throughout the video.

“She hesitated to reveal the truth, fearing it would shatter her,” a woman’s voice said. A man’s voice interjected, “My grandmother had two brothers who were predators.”
Ashley recalled receiving a text from her late mother, Naomi, reading, “Please help.”
“This is the first time I’m speaking about this,” Wynonna stated, as a brief clip displayed her and Ashley holding hands in a field.
“We faced some very challenging times,” remarked Naomi’s husband, Larry Strickland. Other family members and country music celebrities, including Reba McEntire, are also expected to appear in the two-part film.
Naomi passed away in April 2022 at the age of 76 after battling mental illness. (She had been candid about her struggles with profound depression.)

“Today, our sisters shared a tragic loss. We lost our beautiful mother to mental illness,” Wynonna and Ashley expressed in a joint statement at the time. “We are heartbroken. We are navigating deep grief and know that while we loved her, she was also loved by her fans. We’re in uncharted territory.”
Wynonna shared exclusively with Us Weekly in June 2024 that her tumultuous relationship with sister Ashley had strengthened following their mother’s passing.
“With Mom gone, it feels like we’ve solidified our bond — with God connecting us,” she noted. “We both have faith, so we share a strong connection now. The drama doesn’t linger like it used to. We’re older now and realize time is limited.”
The two-part documentary, The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, is set to debut on Lifetime on Saturday, May 10.
