Star Jones Reveals the One Crime She’s Ever Committed
Star Jones is a licensed legal practitioner, but she once crossed the line.
“I’ve only committed one criminal act in my life,” Jones, 63, shares exclusively in her 25 Things You Don’t Know About Me feature in the latest edition of Us Weekly, now on newsstands. “I took a copy of my birth certificate, used Wite-Out, and changed the year I was born so I could work. I was only 15, and you needed to be 16.”
Since then, she hasn’t slowed down, moving from The View to Celebrity Apprentice to writing, hosting, and starring on Divorce Court.
Her newest project is the Letter to My Mother campaign with Medtronic, aimed at raising awareness about women’s heart health.
“The emphasis is really on having discussions with the women in our lives so that we prioritize our heart health,” she explained to Us regarding the initiative.
Continue for more personal anecdotes from Jones, including the unexpected show she and her husband adore:
1. I have a secret talent for photographic memory, which helped me in law school. If I’ve seen it, I can recall it.
2. One of my closest friends and mentors is the iconic [producer] Suzanne de Passe. She often says, “We have shooken and tooken.” We have “shooken” every hand and “tooken” every picture.
3. My first car was a Toyota Corolla with a front passenger seat that leaned back into the back seat.
4. From the age of 8, I knew I’d be a lawyer, but if I could be anything else now, I’d choose to be an event planner.
5. My go-to takeout is fried rice with ten ingredients. I prefer it with white rice and no MSG.
6. Growing up, I admired my mother and her eight sisters the most, which is why the Letter to My Mother campaign resonates deeply with me.
7. The proudest moment of my career was when I walked into a Brooklyn courtroom and stated, “Star Jones on behalf of the people of the state of New York.”
8. My first job was as the fry girl at McDonald’s.
9. I committed only one criminal act in my life: changing the year on my birth certificate using Wite-Out to work at 15 instead of the required 16.
10. My favorite vacation destination is Monaco; I was meant to live in Monte Carlo and be a princess.
11. The last show I binged was Paradise. Sterling [K. Brown] is truly amazing.
12. My favorite comfort food is Southern-style grits with cheese, scrambled eggs, and Bob Evans sausage.
13. My ideal weekend involves playing tennis in the Hamptons and lounging by my pool.
14. I’ve accomplished so much in my life, including going on a safari and seeing the Great Wall.
15. Taking a cruise down the Nile like Cleopatra is still on my bucket list.
16. The three essentials I can’t leave home without are my cell phone, Star Jones Beauty lip gloss, and my heart monitor app on my phone.
17. If I could watch one movie forever, it would be Jurassic Park, which I’ve seen at least a thousand times. I don’t think a week passes without it playing on my TV.
18. History was my strongest subject in school.
19. I watch Dateline with my husband, a former criminal defense attorney and administrative law judge, nearly every night. We believe we can solve every case.
20. On tough days, I unwind in the shower, letting the steam ease my tension. A hot shower and a murder mystery help me de-stress.
21. The most important lesson I’ve learned is to occupy the space that God has created for you.
22. My health journey started 20 years ago when I took control of my weight, underwent weight loss surgery, and transformed my lifestyle through diet and exercise. After having open-heart surgery, I committed to advocating for other women.
23. My husband and I share our song, “Me and Mrs. Jones.” No matter what, we find each other and dance in the middle of the room to it, just like my parents.
24. One of my favorite shopping spots is the outlets in Tuscany.
25. Six Flags Great Adventure was my go-to hangout as a kid; my friends and I would coordinate our outfits before going.
