Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Dog Orla Gives Birth to Puppies: Sources Say
Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton’s family has expanded — now with adorable puppies!
William, 42, and Kate, 43, along with their three children — Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 6 — have reportedly welcomed a new litter of puppies, as stated by The Sun.
According to the British outlet, the family’s cocker spaniel, Orla, recently gave birth, and the children are “very excited” about their new furry friends. Neither William, Kate, nor the palace have made a public statement regarding the arrival of the puppies.
The couple received Orla as a gift from Kate’s brother, James Middleton, in 2021 after the passing of their cherished dog, Lupo.
“Last weekend, we sadly lost our beloved dog, Lupo,” William and Kate conveyed through Instagram in November 2020. “He was a vital part of our family for nine years, and his absence is deeply felt.”
Lupo was also a gift from James, 38, who is a proud dog owner himself. Many of James’ pets have played a role in helping him navigate his mental health challenges.
“No one can ever prepare for the loss of a dog. For those without a dog, the loss might be hard to understand,” James shared in his own Instagram post after Lupo’s passing. “Yet, those who have loved a dog recognize the truth: a dog is not merely a pet; it’s a family member, a best friend, a loyal companion, a teacher, and a therapist.”

James added, “There’s no rulebook for grieving a dog, but I’ve lit a candle, said a prayer, and taken Ella (Mum) for a long walk to reminisce about Lupo. Rest in peace, Lupo. Tilly and Mini will be eagerly awaiting you. You will always be remembered, and your legacy endures. Good Boy.”
Since Lupo’s passing, Orla has brought comfort to William and Kate. In October 2024, they hinted that she often sleeps in their bed.
“[William] mentioned that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night,” a royal fan shared with Hits Radio Cornwall after meeting the prince during a local walkabout in October 2024.
Orla has also accompanied William and Kate, who is currently in remission after battling an undisclosed type of cancer, to various public events over the years, including charity polo matches.
