Filming for The Summer I Turned Pretty faced delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but production is set to resume in 2024. Prime Video has officially announced that season 3 will consist of 11 episodes and is slated for release on July 16.

In February 2024, Casalegno expressed uncertainty about the upcoming season: “I think we’re filming in March. I have zero idea of a script. I’m just going off rumors,” he shared with Entertainment Tonight. “I hope it’ll happen soon.”

Returning cast members include Tung, Briney, Casalegno, Chung, Kaufman, and Spencer. Rachel Blanchard, who portrays the boys’ mother, may also return in flashbacks. “I believe there’s a strong chance that could happen,” he told Us Weekly in June 2023, noting, “Jenny writes it so well that I’m able to naturally evolve without forcing the direction.”

Han hinted at forthcoming surprises, stating to Entertainment Weekly in March 2025, “There will be unexpected elements; book fans might anticipate certain outcomes but also experience genuine surprises.”

In a separate interview, Tung expressed support for any storytelling changes, emphasizing that Han’s vision focuses on serving the story’s integrity and enriching the viewer experience.

What About Steven and Taylor?

Season 2 surprised fans by pairing Steven and Taylor, a twist not found in the books. Kaufman shared insights into the creative freedom this provided him as an actor.

“Not being bound by the books allows me to inject my personality into Steven,” he explained to Us in August 2023. “Since there’s no established path, I can genuinely enjoy working with my scene partner.”

Regarding their relationship, Kaufman remained optimistic: “I think they can go the distance. We’re moving at a great pace.”

Spencer echoed this enthusiasm, noting the depth of Taylor’s character thanks to Han’s guidance.

“Jenny has a remarkable grasp on this world, making it relatable. Taylor’s history with Steven adds profound layers to their relationship,” she highlighted.
