Hulu’s Compelling Story of Amanda Knox: Key Insights Following the Murder Trial
Amanda Knox is finally able to reveal her perspective regarding the accusations of her roommate Meredith Kercher’s murder in Hulu’s The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
Knox gained notoriety in 2007 when she was accused of killing her roommate Kercher while studying abroad in Perugia, Italy. After a conviction along with her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison, despite insufficient evidence.
In 2011, an appellate court acquitted the former couple, only for them to be found guilty again three years later during a retrial. Ultimately, the Italian Supreme Court exonerated Knox in 2015, fully clearing her of involvement in Kercher’s murder.
Ivorian migrant Rudy Guede was sentenced to 30 years in prison for Kercher’s murder in 2008, after his DNA was found at the crime scene. His sentence was later reduced, and he was released from prison in November 2021.
Despite public interest in her case, Knox was often excluded from various scripted and unscripted portrayals of her experience. However, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox allowed Knox to express her “gratitude” for her involvement.
“At the heart of it is the question of whether my voice matters in the narrative,” she shared exclusively with Us Weekly in March 2025. “Hulu recognizes that the subject of the story has a valuable perspective to offer, acknowledging that creators bring their own biases into their work—a refreshing experiment.”
Knox added: “I feel deeply honored to collaborate with Monica [Lewinsky], who serves as my mentor and is also an executive producer. While I can’t disclose much yet, this opportunity allows me to be acknowledged for my unique perspective.”
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is an eight-episode series documenting her wrongful accusation, her prison ordeal, and her quest for freedom. Initially, Margaret Qualley was slated to portray Knox in the Hulu series, but she left the project, with Grace Van Patten stepping in as her replacement.

Has Meredith Kercher’s Family Reacted to the Series?
Kercher’s family has not publicly commented on The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. Prior to the series’ premiere, both of Kercher’s parents passed away, and Knox shared her current relationship with the remaining members of Kercher’s family.
“Meredith’s parents have both passed away. Her mother had a heart condition for many years, and I recall Meredith often mentioning how attentive she was towards her mom because of her health,” Knox recalled to Us. “Tragically, her father also suffered an untimely death after he was hit by a car while walking in his neighborhood.”
Knox recognized the additional tragedies that Kercher’s family has endured, noting, “The remaining family consists of her two brothers and sister. I am unsure of their thoughts on me, but I do know her sister has expressed her sorrow that Meredith has been overshadowed by this entire narrative.”

Knox has authored several books about her experiences but hasn’t participated in every film and show featuring the murder case. She was involved in the 2016 Netflix documentary Amanda Knox and penned Waiting to Be Heard and Free: My Search for Meaning, leading up to The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
“Writing has been a therapeutic outlet for me. I’ve worked on this book for many years, incorporating reflections I penned long ago. Each piece helped me process my experiences and seek their significance,” Knox shared with Us. “Ultimately, these reflections revealed the connections and relationships I formed after feeling so isolated.”
